About me

I am an accredited psychotherapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with a specialism in Psychodynamic Music Therapy. Currently working with Mind in schools and perinatal support with the CYP service and as an associate therapist with Kent Occupational Therapy. My practice offers both in-person and online sessions encompassing music and/ or talking therapy.

What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs. Music Therapists draw upon the innate qualities of music to support people of all ages and abilities and at all stages of life; from helping new born babies develop healthy bonds with their parents, to offering vital, sensitive and compassionate palliative care at the end of life.

Central to how Music Therapy works is the therapeutic relationship that is established and developed, through engagement in live musical interaction and play between a therapist and client. A wide range of musical styles and instruments can be used, including the voice, and the music is often improvised. Using music in this way enables clients to create their own unique musical language in which to explore and connect with the world and express themselves.

Personal Perspective

Music surrounds us daily, profoundly influencing our emotions and memories. Regardless of whether we're experiencing anger, sadness, or joy, music serves as a potent medium for expression and connection. I guide individuals through their emotional journeys, emphasising a holistic and client-led approach.

About the Therapy

Psychotherapy provides a safe environment to delve into and articulate emotions, addressing various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and interpersonal challenges.

Music Therapy fosters a therapeutic bond through live musical interaction and play between therapist and client. This may include improvisation, listening, or movement collaborative songwriting, tailored to individual needs and goals. Musical proficiency is not essential; the emphasis lies on using music as a tool for non-musical goals.

Whether you are looking for a more traditional route of Talking Psychotherapy or more intrigued about an alternative such as Music Therapy, please do get in touch.
