About us

Portobello Behavioural Health is the UK’s leading provider of bespoke mental health solutions. We offer our clients and their families bespoke solutions to tackle mental health and addiction problems.  We do not have ‘a model’ that we impose, nor a specific treatment modality we prescribe.

Our approach is to meet each of our clients where they are at and identify what interventions, techniques and support can help them achieve their goals. Those goals vary from client to client.

What our clients always get is a dedicated, discreet team, working in their best interest seeking a way forward together.

The many complications that come with mental health problems or addictions can be overwhelming for everyone involved.  It can be hard to know where to turn to for help and what the best course of action is.  Our team works with you to make sure you have the right clinicians in place, have access to the best support available, and help mediate communication between this array of voices and opinions.  With case management, you can hand over the burden to a professional team that is working in your best interest.

We will arrange and coordinate appointments and translate the complicated clinical language to easily understood directions and help ensure recommendations are implemented. Our team keeps our clients accountable for the changes they commit to making.

Training, qualifications & experience

We offer a range of modalities including but not limited to CBT, ACT, DBT, integrative, psychodynamic, humanistic, systemic and polyvagal therapy.

We have a unique proposition: we provide clients with access to a highly skilled group of professionals, leading experts in their field, that can work together to ensure that clients get the right care for them, in a way that works for them.

Case managers, therapists and coaches approach each client as unique and recognise that the right solutions for that person might also be unique. We have the experience and flexibility to meet those needs.
Clarity of communication, openness and collaboration underpin how our team works. The complications associated with mental health mean that all care providers have to be aligned and approach cases with consistency and compassion.

Member organisations *

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Safe & Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a cutting-edge therapy designed to boost emotional regulation and ease stress and anxiety. Our SSP services, provided by UNYTE-certified therapists, offer personalised mental wellness strategies rooted in the polyvagal theory.

This theory highlights the crucial role of the autonomic nervous system in maintaining physical and mental health. When this system is out of sync, individuals face a range of challenges beyond emotional distress. Physical symptoms like tension, digestive issues, and chronic pain can worsen mental health struggles, heightening feelings of distress. Furthermore, a dysregulated nervous system can disrupt daily life in various ways, from trouble focusing to strained relationships and hindered career goals. This can seriously impact overall well-being.

The SSP provides a promising solution by scientifically recalibrating the autonomic nervous system using carefully chosen therapeutic music. Research shows significant improvements in emotional regulation, social engagement, and overall well-being among SSP recipients.

By incorporating the SSP, individuals gain insight into their nervous system's workings, empowering them to take control of their well-being and embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
