About me

Hello and welcome. I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist. This means that I work with hidden aspects of your personality and help you to develop links between your past and present experiences to look at what may be causing you distress and how we can make changes.

Life can be challenging at times, and therapy can be a space in which we can explore our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, to potentially help turn a corner, gain new insights, and start to make positive changes at a pace that suits you. I am passionate about my work and will constantly draw from my experience, continuous professional development, and supervision to ensure a tailored approach that will meet your individual needs.

Regardless of what you may bring, I offer a safe, warm, empathetic environment where you can explore any issues you choose to bring in confidence. Whether we work short-term or long-term, a safe, trusting relationship between you and I is central to a successful therapeutic experience, so if you would like to see if we can work together, please contact me by telephone, email, or using the booking page on my website.

I can help you cope with a range of different issues, including, but not limited to:

  • a physical or mental health condition
  • difficult life events, such as bereavement, relationship breakdown, or stress at work
  • managing difficult emotions, such as anger
  • overcoming negative thoughts and gaining self-confidence
  • other problems around identity and belonging, including issues around race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and more

Although I pride myself in being able to work with any issues that a person might bring, I have a lot of experience working with specific conditions such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality organisation, PMDD, and more. I have had extensive training in trauma, both complex and recent, and I can work in a variety of ways to suit the individual. I have a wealth of experience working with young people and adults, including middle-aged and older adults. I am fully insured and have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • PhD in Psychology (in progress)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health

I have over ten years' experience working with mental health issues of varying presentations. I have worked in the community and in NHS psychiatric units.

I routinely undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to make sure my knowledge and skills are up-to-date. My most recent CPD includes bipolar disorder, autism, psychoactive substances and trauma.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I understand it can be difficult to find the right therapist, so I offer a free-of-charge 20-minute initial consultation over the telephone to see if we might be able to work together. The fee can be discussed during this session, and a request for concessionary rates will be considered.

If we would like to work together, each session will be 50 minutes thereafter, and will be chargeable at our agreed rate. In our first 50-minute session, I may undertake a further assessment just to explore your past and present circumstances and what any goals from the therapy may be.

If you would like to book an initial session with me email me on admin@psychotherabee.co.uk or use the booking/enquiry form on Counselling Directory or my website. You can also call my mobile and leave a voicemail with your name and telephone number and I will return your message.
