About me

Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. I'm Tricia and I'm an Integrative Counsellor with a degree in Applied Psychology. I specialise in working with individuals and couples who are having relationship difficulties. I work in person with clients in the Haslemere and Godalming areas in Surrey and I also work online.

Relationships and the need for connection are fundamental to our wellbeing. I can help you make sense of the difficulties you are experiencing. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to explore and empower you to make changes. I have been described as having a warm and compassionate approach.

Are you and your partner having problems around communication? Perhaps you don't feel heard or understood. Are trust issues getting in the way of your relationship?

I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with fear of abandonment, over dependency, fear of rejection and commitment issues. I believe that in order to fully heal a relationship, and ourselves, we need to change unhealthy patterns of behaviour. I help clients to identify, understand and change these patterns so that they can move forward. I will listen with empathy and care, and support you to find a way forward.

COUPLES COUNSELLING

By listening to both partners, impartially and objectively, I help couples to:

- Resolve communication problems
- Deal with trust issues
- Reconnect
- Understand each person's 'love language'
- Deal with the aftermath of infidelity
- Manage conflict
- Maintain healthy boundaries
- Work through unhealthy behaviour patterns
- Express their needs
- Understand the reasons for reduced intimacy
-Manage separation/divorce if required

How can Couples Therapy help? Couples therapy helps partners to reconnect emotionally and create a happier and healthier relationship. Therapy can help couples to improve their communication, enhance understanding of each other's needs and learn how to resolve conflict in a kinder and more effective way. By working through problems in therapy couples can start to rebuild trust and strengthen emotional bonds.

Respect, Trust and communication are the building blocks of a happy relationship. Do you feel that your partner respects your views and your opinions? Are you able to trust your partner? Can you rely on them? Do you communicate in a way that you both feel heard?

I help couples who believe that change is possible. Working on our relationships is not easy, it requires hard work, intention and perseverance.

I offer a safe space for individuals and couples to bring whatever issues they want to work through.  I have been described as having a warm and compassionate approach. I will not judge anything that is shared with me the sessions.

INDIVIDUALS COUNSELLING

I help clients to:

- Manage fear of rejection
- Maintain a sense of self when in a relationship
- Express their needs
- Improve boundary setting
- Manage fear of abandonment
- Develop a secure attachment style
- Overcome anxiety
- Improve self-esteem

Are you struggling to make relationships work? Sometimes we have unresolved issues that impact our ability to find the right partner, or to have happy, long lasting relationships. We may not be aware that we keep repeating the same patterns, or even if we are, we don't know how to change them. I help clients to understand their repeating patterns, by exploring them and  looking into when they started, it's then possible to start working towards change. When we work together I support you to identify what it is that you want to achieve in your relationships, and how to start working towards this.

Often individuals struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety and low mood, which makes it difficult to work on relationships. How can you have positive relationships with others if you don't have a good relationship with yourself? Do you find that when you are in a relationship you tend to lose your sense of self? After a while you can't remember what it is that you enjoy doing and what your preferences are. Perhaps you become very anxious and needy? Or, alternatively, you may get scared when someone wants to get close to you and you end up pulling away?

I help clients to work on their self-esteem and confidence, by empowering them to realise their own strengths and skills. When clients feel paralysed by anxiety, I can share various coping strategies to help manage anxiety symptoms such as overthinking and catastrophising, for this I find Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can be very useful.

Another reason you may be struggling to have successful relationships could be because of unresolved past emotional wounds.  When we go through difficult periods in life, whether this is during childhood, or as adults, we end up carrying with us a load of emotional baggage, this can affect, not only our choice of partner, but also how we navigate issues in the relationship. I help clients to work through and heal past emotional wounds, so that they can then be in a stronger position when it comes to choosing a partner and to managing difficulties in relationships.
