About me

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for children from 4 yo to 12yo, for teenagers and young adults from 13yo to 25yo, as well as for individual adults, including older adults.

My approach is 'at depth' ('psychodynamic'),  which is able to address all sorts of emotional/ psychological difficulties, including those which are more serious or recurring. (Which may not have been able to be helped by other therapy. eg. By CBT.)

My approach for children is very natural, via play, but how I respond to a child is always informed by my training, clinical thinking and experience.

A flexible approach is offered for teenagers, adapted to suit the needs of each young person.

I am experienced in work with adults, both in general counselling/ psychotherapy for a wide range of problems and also in psychotherapy for those who have longstanding and/or acute problems. (eg. Intense or recurring anxieties, eating disorders, patterns of self-harm, problems with anger or with an unstable sense of self, amongst other things.

I am quite experienced in work with children and teenagers who identify as transgender (Gender Dysphoria) or who are fluid in their sexual/ gender orientation. My general aim is to support them, while thoroughly exploring and helping them with any psychological difficulties. Also exploring and considering their social background and other influences.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally trained in adult counselling, (Graduate Diploma in Counselling, 2010), but I have completed several more years of other specialist training and learning, including that which enables me to work with children and teenagers.

I have also undertaken significant further learning, which enables me to work 'at depth' with adults.

I have been in my own practice since 2010.

I also have experience in helping children with more significant developmental problems and have usually seen good outcomes for these children, (eg. Autistic Spectrum children or those with pervasive developmental delays.)

I am generally able to help children and teenagers on to a better developmental track.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

DBS check

In England and Wales, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly known as CRB) carry out criminal records checks for individuals working with vulnerable groups, such as children. To find out more, visit gov.uk , or contact this professional directly

There is one flight of stairs as I am on the first floor; unfortunately there is no lift. A bathroom is very close to my consulting rooms. (Definitely needed for children!)
