About me

Originally from Wales and now living on the east coast of Scotland, I am an experienced counsellor working with young people and adults. I offer online counselling as well as counselling outdoors in nature (walk&talk).

If you're looking for the right counsellor for you (or your child), then you may be wondering where to start in the search for someone. It can be difficult to know who would be the right fit for you, so let me share a little about what I can offer you to help you understand if I'm the right fit for you.

I often find myself working with people who are going through a major life change. Whether that's grief, divorce, identity changes, postnatal, job changes, moving house, family struggles, leaving for university, or even ill health. I also find myself working with people who are reflecting on past life changes - ones which changed who they are as a person - and who are after a safe place to explore these events and find a way to heal from them.

If this sounds like you, then you may be hoping for a safe place to do some inner work, explore your identity and feelings, work towards healing and have an ally with you as you find a more peaceful path forward.

I focus on self reflection, growing your awareness, learning and understanding the impact it's having on you, healing from distressing feelings and finding new ways of coping so that we can limit the damage on yourself, your relationships and your world.

For example, going through distressing experiences, or reflecting on previous ones, may have left you feeling exhausted, highly strung, depressed or anxious, quick to lose your patience, struggling to keep on top of things, experiencing relationship difficulties, or simply you may not enjoy the usual things anymore.

Well, if you're at a point in wanting to invest in yourself and give yourself the best chance of finally healing and processing your experiences and worries, then I can be your ally in your journey towards healing and growth. I can help to create a sense of understanding and hope for you when you need it the most. Working together, we can learn to understand your feelings and experiences and find new ways of being which will help bring about changes in your life.

Working with me in this deeply personal way can be transformative, allowing you to feel more empowered in your choices, to create peace in your mind, your body and in the life you lead.

We can meet online each week or if you're local to me in Dunbar, we can meet for counselling outside with walk&talk. I listen to you and your needs, or if you're unable to connect with these, I help you find them. How we work together will be based on your individual circumstances, but it may include an influence of; talking therapy, trauma informed ways of working, bodywork and somatics, mindful practices, attachment focus and creativity.

I am a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist, with 15+ years of experience within mental health. Although I work with people experiencing all types of challenges, I do also have specialist knowledge and further understanding of additional areas including; adolescent experiences, childhood difficulties, trauma, family breakdown (estrangement, divorce etc), and blended families, relational difficulties, reconnecting with your identity after life changes, peri/postnatal impact, grief and suicidal ideation.

Feel free to enquire about working together, ask any questions you may have, or book in for a free initial conversation to find out a bit more.

I look forward to hearing from you. Jacques

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
