About us

Hi, I am Professor Ewan Gillon, Clinical Director of First Psychology, one of the UK's largest independent mental health practices located in Scotland and North East England.  I am a counselling psychologist registered with the HCPC and have been in practice for over 20 years.  I work with a team of highly skilled counsellors/psychotherapists, CBT practitioners and applied psychologists here in Newcastle offering a variety of therapy options including counselling, CBT, psychotherapy and couples therapy. Our approach is to work in a way that is tailored to the individual needs and preferences of each client. We know that coming to therapy can be daunting and offer a friendly, welcoming approach alongside a highly professional service.

Training, qualifications & experience

All practitioners in our team are highly trained and experienced and registered with a relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, BACP, UKCP or NCS) They are all professionally supervised and insured. First Psychology undertakes a DBS or PVG check to ensure the best possible care of our clients as part of our own approved practitioner framework.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
