About me

Whatever has brought you here can be resolved by reaching out for further support.

I provide systemic psychotherapy for individuals, couples, or families. All my services are tailored to your specific needs. I offer a safe, non-judgmental and empathetic space for you to express yourself freely. I'm trained to work alongside you to identify what needs to change. This involves understanding your strengths, enhancing self-awareness, and grasping the dynamics of the system or environment you are in. Together, with a curious, open-minded, and gentle approach, we can create positive change.

As a UKCP approved Systemic Psychotherapist, I've undergone extensive training in this unique and specialised therapy, which allows me to provide collaborative support to any group of individuals.

Training, qualifications & experience

My name is Rebecca James and I am a highly trained and experienced psychotherapist with a passion for helping individuals, couples and families navigate complex emotional and relational challenges.

I am accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the leading organisation for regulated psychotherapists in the UK, ensuring that I adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Additionally, I hold registration with the Association of Family Therapy (AFT), the only professional body dedicated to specialist systemic psychotherapy training, empowering me to provide comprehensive relational therapy services.

I began my work with children and families by obtaining a BA in Educational Studies from the University of York. Subsequently, I qualified as a primary school teacher, earning Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the University of Worcester. Throughout my academic pursuits, I gained valuable experience as a nanny, further solidifying my interest in the intricacies of parenting and family dynamics.

My passion for psychology led me to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Arts and another in Parent-Child Relationship Skills at The Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE). These qualifications, coupled with my extensive clinical experience, have equipped me with the expertise to address a wide range of emotional and relational concerns.

I completed my training as a Systemic Psychotherapist at the Tavistock and NHS Portman Clinic and the University of Leeds. Systemic psychotherapy emphasises the interconnectedness of individuals within their relationships, enabling me to effectively support individuals, couples, families, and organisations.

Throughout my practice, I have honed my therapeutic skills working in bereavement services, youth centres, and CAMHS services. These experiences have provided me with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals and families in diverse settings.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or any other emotional concern, I am here to guide you on a path towards healing and well-being. Together, we can explore the root causes of your challenges and develop effective strategies for personal growth and resilience.

Further information

I invite you to reach out and schedule an appointment today. Together, we can create a brighter future for you and your loved ones.

For Individuals:

I offer individual psychotherapy to people of all ages, genders, sexualities, cultural backgrounds and other markers of difference. I hold a flexible approach to therapy, as aligned with systemic psychotherapy. Frequency of the sessions range from weekly to fortnightly or in some cases less frequent sessions, depending on the presenting difficulties. I offer face-to-face and online sessions.

Individual therapy can help with a range of dilemmas and creates change by providing you with effective tools in managing difficult feelings, building self-awareness and increasing confidence in your ability.

For Relationships:

As a Systemic Psychotherapist, I am trained to work with relationships. Therefore, my relational work includes couples, open, polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships.

Relationship counselling offers a safe and structured environment to discuss challenging topics that can create emotional distress for the relationship.

Sessions can be offered face-to-face or online and would be held every 1-2 weeks depending on the goals.

For Families:

Systemic psychotherapy is the only type of therapy that offers a space for the whole family. Working flexibly, this can range from whole family, individual or parent only sessions.

Each family is unique and my work involves your help in understanding the dynamics, challenges and strengths that are individual to you. As a systemic psychotherapist, I am taught, with your openness and guidance, to find ways to create change that are distinct to your family.

Sessions range from short term (12-16 sessions) to ongoing depending on the goals. Usually, family sessions would be held every 2-3 weeks. I offer face-to-face and online sessions. Remote working for families can be from different locations.

For Organisations:

I offer three approaches for organisations:

I offer systemic psychotherapy to employees, in group or individual therapy, to co-create effective working relationships to maximise employee satisfaction and productivity, if difficulties have arisen.

I offer systemic training to organisations to discover and apply systemic strategies that are uniquely suited to address its challenges. I offer a range of session formats, including hourly, half-day, or full-day options.

I offer systemic training to hospices and charities working with bereavement. This involves half day or full day training workshops to employees and volunteers looking to expand their systemic knowledge and skills in offering therapeutic services to individuals, adult relationships and families who are bereaved or facing end of life.
