About me
Hello, my name is Pav. I am a Registered and Chartered Clinical Psychologist, EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and DBT therapist with over 20 years of experience within the voluntary, NHS and independent sector. I have ran my private practice for over 12 years now.
I have extensive experience of assessing and providing psychological interventions for a range of problems including; depression, anxiety disorders (such as obsessive compulsive disorder, phobia, panic, health anxiety, social anxiety and generalised anxiety), low self-esteem, trauma (including childhood/developmental trauma, racial trauma, childbirth, relational trauma and narcissistic abuse), PTSD, complex PTSD, self-harm, addictions, eating disorders, physical illnesses (including long covid and CFS/M.E. and fibromyalgia), autism spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, personality difficulties, adjustment disorders and bipolar. I also have experience of providing evidence based psychological therapies to maximise neuropsychological rehabilitation for those who are experiencing neurological injury, illness or disease. This has included people with Parkinson's, Spinal Injuries, Stroke, Cancer, Acquired Brain Injury, FND and MS.
I always aim to understand people and their challenges and difficulties within the context of their unique lived experiences, culture, race, beliefs and values. As such, working collaboratively and flexibly is important to me so that I can ensure I provide meaningful, helpful and effective interventions that will alleviate stress and distress and enable recovery, healing and growth.
I draw on a range of psychological models and evidence based psychological therapies. These include; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Whilst I tend to integrate these approaches to meet people’s therapeutic needs and goals, I fundamentally believe that the therapeutic relationship is really at the heart of enabling change and progress. With the right help and support, we can all tap into our inner wisdom, strengths and resources which can help us live ours lives to the fullest.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have experience of working with children, families, adults and older adults across a range of services including; Primary Care, Secondary Care, Eating Disorders Services, Acute Inpatients, Learning Disabilities, Dementia Services and Community/Rehabilitation settings.
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology (BSc), a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Mental Health Care (PGCert) and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy). I have gained further training and qualifications in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and advanced training in the treatment of trauma including Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), Ego State Therapy and body therapies.
I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.
