About me
I believe we are continuously shaped by our environment and our experiences. This is a hopeful perspective as it means we do not need to be forever defined by earlier adverse experiences, or mental health diagnoses. Anxiety is but one emotion that give us a message to guide our actions, when this or other emotions become overwhelming or debilitating, we might benefit from help to find the route to calmer waters. Through the therapeutic relationship, you can develop self-awareness, resilience, self-compassion and skills - the inner resources you need to make positive change.
Training, voluntary and life experience have given me an understanding of many of the struggles that teenagers and adults encounter in their friendships, work or family relationships like attachment, abandonment and rejection issues; identity issues around culture, religion, gender, sexuality; infidelity, alcoholism, co-dependence or abuse, as well as struggles with the self like low self-esteem or social anxiety. I am interested in how our early attachment relationships and experiences in the family, in early care and in school (including boarding school), shape us including across cultures and subcultures and how this impacts how we are in relationships and the world throughout our lives. I volunteer with people who have been in prison and who want to change the way they experience life because I believe positive change is possible for everyone.
It is essential that you feel comfortable with your counsellor - a free and no obligation telephone chat will help you to determine whether you would like to work with me.
