About me

Hi, my name is Karen and I have over 18 years of counselling experience. I specialise in working with complex trauma, abuse, (sexual, physical, and emotional) and eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating, etc). I also have extensive experience in working with anxiety, depression, addiction, attachment, and relationship issues, as well as the everyday issues many people struggle with, ranging from phobias to self-harm, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts.

I have worked in a variety of settings, including charities, counselling agencies and private practice. I also have a comprehensive and varied range of qualifications and expertise in different areas of therapy/counselling.

As an accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) I follow their ethical guidelines of practice. I also have enhanced clearance from Access NI to work with both young people and vulnerable adults.

In a supportive setting, counselling can bring about a new perspective that can be empowering, and provide greater self-awareness, enabling you to make the right choices for you. I strongly believe that therapy can be hugely beneficial, healing, and transformative and I will do my utmost to build an empathic environment in which I connect with you in a trusting, genuine and non-judgmental manner. The therapeutic relationship is central to successful therapy, but it is you, and only you, who holds the key to your future.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
