About me
Hello. My name is Robert and I am a qualified integrative counsellor who uses a variety of recognised and appropriate therapeutic approaches to suit the individual needs of adult clients, whatever their age, background, or circumstances.
I offer confidential, empathic, and non-judgemental support whether in my therapy room which is between Putney Heath and Wimbledon Village, online or on the phone, outdoors on the Common, or in your home.
You may well be apprehensive at the thought of counselling, especially if you are unsure what to expect, and to help you decide I offer a free initial 20 minute online or phone session where you can tell me about what you hope to gain from counselling and to ask any questions you may have.
If you choose me as your counsellor, we will arrange regular 50 minutes sessions which can be over a short- or long-term period depending on your needs and wishes. The first session includes establishing the basis of our working relationship including recognising the ethical and safe nature of our work, talking about ways we can work towards your goals, and beginning to explore what has brought you to counselling.
It has likely taken you considerable courage even to consider counselling and some of your processing will probably be emotionally painful for you, but I will be there to support you and I hope, through our sessions together, you will reap the benefits of your work. Please do feel free to call or email me - your enquiry is welcome.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered Member of the BACP, I regularly partake in continuing professional development, and I undergo frequent and regular supervision. This ensures your safety and well-being is, and remains, paramount and that my expertise is maintained and developed.
My experience in listening and supporting others in exploring their concerns comes not just from being a counsellor, but also from being a Samaritan for many years and from working with people with complex needs and from all backgrounds. I have a wealth of life experience including being in the Armed Forces, and working with victims of crime and offenders, addictions, relationship dynamics, childhood traumas, and bereavement and other forms of loss.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
