My name is Dr Nichola Marchant and I am an experienced and compassionate Clinical Psychologist based in Derbyshire. I have been working with those who experience mental health difficulties and emotional distress for the last 18 years in both the NHS and independent sector.
I work completely independently as I believe that it is vital that people are able to access the type of therapy that suits them and that will best help them to achieve their goals. As a Clinical Psychologist, I am able to offer a variety of different psychological approaches to provide an individually tailored approach rather than expecting people to fit into specific "boxes".
Therapies offered include- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, CBT; Dialectical Behavior Therapy, DBT skills , Schema Focused Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy, Compassion Therapy, Mindfulness, EMDR and Cognitive Analytic Therapy, CAT.
I also offer Psycho-sexual therapy for those (individuals, couples, poly relationships) experiencing sexual concerns (e.g. intimacy issues, problems with arousal, orgasm difficulties, addictive issues) and those wanting to explore their sexual identity / interests within therapy.
I have a keen interest in working with those who are experiencing relationship problems (including issues relating to identity, conflict and sexual difficulties), emotional difficulties and mood problems such as anxiety, depression and issues relating to anger and those who have developed problematic coping patterns (such as self-harming and addictive behaviours eg drugs / alcohol / sexual behaviours / pornography / eating / gambling).
I work with clients who have often experienced traumatic or negative life events.
For some people accessing therapy, their focus is on making sense of early childhood experiences and repeating patterns. Others prefer to focus on the here and now. I work compassionately with clients, recognising both the challenges they have experienced and their individual strengths and offering a way forward.

Prior to working independently, I specialised in working with those with difficulties relating to trauma (for example, sexual abuse, neglect, emotional / physical abuse and domestic violence), attachment problems (for example those who have received a diagnosis of personality disorder) and those with substance abuse / addiction issues.

I have worked therapeutically with clients of all ages, including children and their families, couples, older adults and children and adults with learning disabilities and developmental disorder (eg Autistic Spectrum Disorder).
I enjoy working collaboratively with clients and appreciate the importance of a sound, therapeutic relationship at the core of all therapy.
