About me

Why therapy?

Often the question asked is, why do I need to go to therapy? or what does a therapist even do? The way I often feel I can answer these questions are, as people we are primarily and often left alone with our own thoughts, we find ourselves overthinking, or avoiding, or in patterns of behaviours that we cannot understand or get out of. The space of therapy provides a space for you to discuss any thoughts,  worries, feelings and have support in identifying patterns of thinking and doing.

Clinical Experience

I am an experienced psychotherapist and registered counsellor. I am in the process of completing my doctoral training in counselling psychology (thesis awaiting submission).

I have 9 years of experience working in mental health services (NHS & private services). I have worked in High Secure Forensic Services (NHS), Specialist Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (NHS), Early interventions for Psychosis (NHS), Low/medium secure psychiatric intensive care units (private), Women and Girls network for gendered based violence (Charity), IAPT talking therapies (NHS) and private therapy.

I have worked with a range of presenting difficulties, including common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. I also have experience working with relational difficulties, emotional abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, grief, loss, personality disorders, trauma, sexual abuse, trauma, intergenerational trauma, cross-cultural conflict, Autism and ADHD.

My approach

I value how individuals make sense of their experiences and their lives. I work with a pluralistic approach to meet the client where they are psychological. This means I integrate different schools of thinking to meet clients' preferences. These schools include but not limited to person-centred therapy, psychodynamic theory and Cognitive-behavioural therapy. The aim of utilising these techniques is to maximise understanding, compassion and healing for my clients.

I adopt an approach to ensure my clients feel they are within a safe, trusting, respectful and confidential space where they are able to share their difficulties and reach a shared understanding of what could work for them. I appreciate that therapy can mean discussing unwanted memories and feelings. I hold a non-judgemental and empathetic stance that acknowledges the importance of context and diversity.

I believe that people are the experts of their own lives, and utilising therapy to overcome life challenges can support them in their unique journey.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions or queries.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
