About me

Hello, thank you for checking out my profile. I’m Emma; a CPCAB qualified integrative therapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP. That’s a bit of a mouthful isn’t it!

I currently work in private practice offering face to face appointments in Chislehurst, Bromley, Kent.

I also offer online counselling covering the UK.

Initial consultations are by phone and are free with no obligation so you can decide if you would like to work together or not.

Contact me by phone or email: 07866 584346 or send me an email.

As a counsellor, I practice in a pluralistic way which means I draw upon different theoretical approaches when I work with you as an individual – after all, there is only one of you in the world! My aim is to attune to your individual needs and I strive to work in an authentic down to earth way that is interactive and collaborative.

Counselling can be daunting so I will work with you at your pace, offering you a space that is non-judgemental, respectful and confidential. Everyone is different, but having a space to talk and actually be heard can be extremely powerful and healing; leading to a greater understanding of yourself and a shift in your emotions and perceptions. My aim is to work alongside you in your journey and assist you in addressing those aspects of your life which are causing you distress, anxiety, sadness and difficulty.

I have experience of working with teenagers at a large secondary school and have worked with a variety of issues affecting teens including eating disorders, self-harm, ADHD, ASD/autism, bullying, personality disorders, anxiety, depression and family trauma, including abuse and substance abuse.

I have also worked with adult clients of all ages and backgrounds gained in a GP surgery setting and have worked with a wide range of issues including bereavement/loss, self-harm, anxiety, OCD, phobias, panic attacks, depression, personality disorders, trauma, abuse, autism, body image, stress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, low self-esteem, anger, menopause, relationship, marital and family issues.

I also have extensive experience of working with alcohol and substance abuse, and have prior experience of working with treatment centres including The Priory.

I have also trained in mindfulness and meditation and incorporate this into my practice, when relevant, offering a spiritual element to those clients who are interested in this approach.

I am trained across a number of modalities including person centred, CBT, psychodynamic, attachment, inner-child work, transactional analysis, gestalt, existential, creative therapies, and I have a particular interest in compassionate enquiry.

Duration and reviews

Counselling is individual and I work with clients to tailor therapy to a duration that suits them, carefully reviewing the work together at regular intervals and reviewing goals. It can be tricky to know from the outset how many sessions are wanted/needed but this can be discussed from the first consultation and be flexible. My aim is to kind of get myself fired! When you are ready, of course.

Confidentiality and ethics

  • All our work together is confidential. There are some exceptions to this (ethical and legal) and these will be discussed in detail at our first meeting.
  • I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
  • I hold professional indemnity insurance

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
