About me

I work with people in distress, who are in need of support, and want to make a change in their lives.

As your counsellor I will help you understand and work through the difficulties you are facing. You'll be given the time, space and attention you need to make sense of your situation and to move beyond old patterns towards healing and growth.

I have the skills and experience to help you talk about the most difficult thoughts, emotions, experiences, and memories; and process the pain, grief and confusion that can accompany them. I will support you in your journey wholeheartedly and you will not feel alone in what can be challenging work.

How it works

Once you contact me, I will offer you a short telephone call to discuss any questions you may have. We will then arrange a first appointment. If you would prefer to have this conversation by email, just let me know.

First Sessions

When meeting in person I use comfortable, spacious, rooms at The Norwich Wellbeing Centre in central Norwich.

You can come as you are, and you’ll have the time and space to talk about whatever you want to share. We’ll discuss what brings you to counselling, what you’d like help with, and how I can best support you. It’s also a time for us to get a sense of whether we are a good fit as therapist and client. At the end of the session we’ll talk about what it’s been like for you and how you’re feeling. You can then go away and think about whether you’d like to continue.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

It is not always clear in advance how many sessions you will need to feel better. I would suggest beginning with 4-6 sessions. After these sessions, you may feel you have got what you needed, and done enough work for now, or you may wish to continue. It is important that you feel in control of the process and know that you can stop, or take a break, whenever you want or need to.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications

  • Masters in Counselling (University of East Anglia)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (University College London & King’s College London)

I graduated with a master’s degree in counselling from the University of East Anglia in 2013.

Three years later I was funded by Health Education England to continue my training at University College London and King's College London, receiving my postgraduate diploma in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents in 2018.

Experience

I have many years experience providing counselling for adults and young people through NHS IAPT and CAMHS interventions, in public and private education, and in a charitable organisation working with 11-18 year olds and young adults.

I continue to work with staff and pupils in a local high school and as a specialist mentor for undergraduate and postgraduate students requiring mental health support at the University of East Anglia, Norwich University of the Arts, and in higher education throughout the country.

In over ten years experience I have worked with clients from a wide range of ethnicities, gender identities, and sexual orientations, in both adults and young people. The expression of each client’s experience has been unique, and lies beyond categorisation, but I have worked with issues such as: abuse, trauma, addiction, anger, anxiety, suicidal ideation, dissociation, OCD, eating disorders, self-harm, depression, affairs and betrayal, relationship breakdown, bereavement and with neurodiverse conditions such as Autism (ASD) and ADHD.

I’m experienced in providing both short-term solution-focused work and mid to long-term therapy. It is important to me that you’re benefiting from counselling no matter how many sessions you have.

Training

I trained as a Person-Centred therapist – an approach which emphasises our inner resources and readiness to embody our true selves when we are genuinely heard, seen, and accepted. Through this experience counselling offers a healing and empowering opportunity to reveal and work with the hidden, outdated, and unhelpful concepts we have of ourselves.

These concepts lie at the heart of many mental health diagnoses, addictions, and emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties we experience. They trap us in thoughts and behaviours that frustrate us and cause us pain. In counselling we safely and creatively explore this area of self – helping you to understand and move beyond old patterns and towards healing and growth.

I am especially interested in how counselling can initiate and support processes of change and development at all ages. My approach focuses on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist - the heart of the counselling process.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
