About me

Hello, I'm Craig Doyley, a dedicated person-centred counsellor committed to fostering a safe and empathetic space for individuals seeking support and guidance. With a compassionate approach, I specialise in assisting clients on their unique journeys towards self-discovery and personal growth.

As a male counsellor, I understand the importance of providing a nurturing environment where individuals feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions freely. My practice embraces diversity, and I am proud to support the LGBTQ+ community as a gay counsellor, offering a perspective shaped by personal experience and understanding.

My counselling style revolves around the principles of person-centred therapy, emphasising empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence (genuineness). I firmly believe that every person holds the inherent capacity for personal development and self-understanding. Through active listening and non-judgmental support, I strive to empower individuals to explore their feelings, thoughts, and concerns at their own pace, facilitating self-awareness and fostering inner growth.

Beyond my training and expertise in person-centred therapy, my background in spiritualism adds another dimension to my counselling approach. I respect and acknowledge the spiritual aspects of an individual's life, recognising their significance in the healing process.

What sets me apart is my commitment to the philosophy of "be the difference to be different." I believe in challenging traditional norms and approaches to counselling, providing a unique and tailored experience for each client. My aim is not only to be a guide but also to encourage individuals to embrace their authentic selves and explore their inner potential in a supportive and affirming environment.

In a world where seeking help can sometimes feel daunting, my goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all. Together, we can navigate challenges, promote self-discovery, and work towards positive, meaningful change.

I look forward to the opportunity to support you on your journey towards personal healing and growth. Feel free to reach out, and let's take this step together. Below, I have included more information about how your first session will look and how person-centred counselling can help you in your journey.

Warm regards,
Craig.

Your First Session

Taking the first step towards counselling can be both exciting and intimidating. During your initial session, we will have the opportunity to get to know each other and begin to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. This session is all about you - your goals, your concerns, and your expectations.

I will listen attentively and without judgment as you share your thoughts and feelings. Together, we will explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. You can ask questions about the counselling process, and we will discuss confidentiality, boundaries, and any other vital aspects of our therapeutic journey.

By the end of this session, you should have a clearer understanding of how our work together will unfold, and you can decide if you feel comfortable continuing with me as your counsellor.

How Counselling Can Help You

Counselling is a collaborative and transformative process that can help you navigate life's challenges, improve your emotional well-being, and work towards your personal goals. Here are some ways in which counselling can benefit you:

Self-Exploration: Counselling provides a unique space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, you can make more informed choices and build a stronger sense of self.
Emotional Support: Life can be overwhelming at times, and counselling offers a supportive environment where you can express your feelings openly. Together, we can develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties.
Personal Growth: Counselling is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. It can help you identify and overcome obstacles, develop healthier relationships, and work towards a more fulfilling life.
Effective Communication: Counselling can improve your communication skills, helping you build stronger connections with others and resolve conflicts more effectively.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling Studies with Honours (BA Hons). This was a three-year, full-time undergraduate counselling qualification accredited by the University of Hull. During my degree, I have focused my studies on Bereavement, Grief and LGBTQ+ issues.

As part of my BACP membership, I actively participate in at least 30 hours a year of Continued Professional Development (CPD).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
