About me

I have been working as an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist for more than a decade, seeing clients privately and within NHS, NGO and various school settings.

As a therapist, I believe that creativity is central to the process of self-discovery, healing, change and transformation.

As well as offering ‘Talking Therapy,’ I encourage the use of the arts in sessions - especially when words are too much or not enough. Using different creative methods can help reach places that we cannot get to by talking alone. The arts can also help us explore and better understand the layers of meaning within therapy sessions. This can also include utilising symbolism and metaphor in our explorations together.

I also work as an Environmental Arts Therapist (training 2014), which stems from my belief in the inherent wisdom of nature to heal and restore, and an interest in how the cycles and themes within the natural world relate to the human psyche.

My work as a therapist is largely informed by over 12 years of experience teaching yoga, with a focus upon body and breath and the relationship between mental, emotional and physical states.

As a clinical practitioner, my theoretical approach combines the Western Psychotherapeutic thinking of Psychodynamic and Humanistic schools, including Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and in particular Gestalt Therapy. My understanding of the human condition is further influenced by the philosophy and psychology of Eastern Traditions (particularly Indian and Tibetan).

A belief in the interconnected relationship between individuals and their wider environment - both past and present - is intrinsic to my thinking and work as a therapist.

I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, depending on individual needs.

I currently provide online therapy and clinical supervision, with over 7 years of experience working in this way. Whilst my usual practice is based at The Woodland Retreat, Highgate (an eco-cabin set within ancient protected woodland) and at my home practice in Crouch End, I am working online only until the end of 2024.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Therapy can be an open-ended, supportive and explorative space to enhance our life journey. It can also be used in a more focused and time-limited way to help us work on specific issues. Effective therapy can help bring us greater understanding and meaning as well as change and transformation within our lives. Ideally, the work that we do in therapy will last long beyond the time when the sessions end.

I seek to provide a warm, energising and nurturing space. My approach will be guided by you and your needs. The therapeutic journey will look different for each individual.
