About me

Hi, I’m Lisa.

I’m currently taking on new clients either in person online or telephone.

Taking the first step into finding a therapist can be daunting and sometimes confusing so if you have any questions at all please feel free to contact me.

I’m a qualified and registered counsellor with the British association for counselling and psychotherapy (BACP). This means that my training and experience is throughly checked and regularly reviewed with the leading professional organisation. I follow their ethical framework to ensure your health and safety is always priority.

I am an integrative therapist which means I use number of different therapeutic counselling concepts and techniques such as person-centred, Cognitive behavioural therapy ( CBT), psychodynamic theories, attachment theories, transactional analysis and solution focused brief therapy. My approach ensures that the therapy you receive is tailored to your needs and is personal to you.

my practice is trauma-informed and fully inclusive to all.

Throughout our work together I will help and support you to explore your thoughts emotions and behaviours, free from any judgement or shame. I will listen with genuine empathy and care.

I have worked with many different people in a range of different settings, such as schools, prisons, bereavement charities and mental health organisations. I help people dealing with all kinds of life issues such as bereavement, loss, anxiety, depression, stress, addiction, relationships, trauma, anger, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and mental illness.

I will help you to find new perspective, make changes and free you from what’s holding you back so that you begin to live the life you deserve.

My practice in based in Churwell, Morley, Leeds (LS27). It is close to junctions on the M62, M621 and M1 motorways which makes it accessible from other areas in West Yorkshire such as Leeds, Bradford, Dewsbury, Birstall, Batley, Wakefield.

You can decide whether you would like our sessions to be in person or remotely, online or by telephone.

I offer weekly, bi-weekly and in some cases monthly appointments. Usually a counselling session lasts around 50-60 mins, although this can be amended to suit your needs.

I have a lovely quiet and peaceful therapy room where you can relax and feel comfortable to share your thoughts and feelings.

Please do get in touch for a free warm and friendly chat about what you are wanting from counselling and how I could help you achieve this.

I usually work Monday to Friday.  I also have some evening and weekend times available.

Experience

I am a qualified counsellor, continuing my professional development with a masters degree in contemporary relationship studies. I currently work in both primary and secondary schools, counselling children and young people. I also work in prison bereavement services counselling adults and run a private counselling and therapy practice in churwell, Morley- Leeds.

I have experience of volunteer work with the Samaritans and Cruse Bereavement. I also volunteered for a domestic and sexual abuse/violence charity as telephone caller support.

I work with a bereavement charity counselling parents and families grieving the loss of a child.

I also had a placement with HMP Leeds, counselling men in prison.

Before I chose to re-train as a counsellor, I had a career working as a private banking advisor for a high street bank. I helped many people at a time of major life changes such as moving home, starting a family, retirement or redundancy. I gained experience of building trusting relationships with people, being able to listen with empathy and without judgement throughout difficult life situations.

I have also experienced my own personal life difficulties. I was supported through these with counselling. I know that being able to talk openly to someone who is genuinely listening and wants to help can make a huge difference and that's why I re-trained as a counsellor, so that I can help others too.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
