About me

I aim to provide a safe, warm, non-judgemental, confidential space for my clients from my home in Chinley or outdoors, walking and talking, with a choice of walks to suit everyone.

When you first contact me, we can have a chat and then arrange a time to meet, if it feels right for you. I usually see my clients on a weekly basis, but we can discuss what your individual requirements are and sessions can be booked to suit.

Sometimes, finding words to describe how you are feeling can seem impossible, I work in a creative way which helps to explore, express and communicate thoughts and difficulties. Being outdoors in nature can provide a different perspective whilst bringing together the mind, body and feelings. This can help develop acceptance and compassion, leading to a feeling of wholeness.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice. I work mainly as a Psychodynamic counsellor but integrate other approaches when appropriate and helpful for my client.
  • I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • I am fully insured and DBS checked
  • I have experience working with adults, young adults and children.
  • I worked on a voluntary basis as a Counsellor at New Mills High School for two years.

In addition, I also hold;

  • BTEC in Early Years,
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism,
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health
  • I worked at Buxton and Leek College in a supportive role for 18 years until recently.  This provided me with training and experience with: Mental Health Awareness, Emergency First Aid, Prevent and Safeguarding, awareness of bullying and on-line grooming, supporting young adults with dyslexia, sight and hearing impairments.

I regularly focus on my Continued Professional Development which helps me to stay up to date and open to new ways to meet the needs of my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
