About me

My name is Suzanne McNaughton (founder of integration counselling & psychotherapy). I am a BABCP accredited psychological therapist, living in East Lothian, Scotland.

I base my work on what best suits your needs, using evidence based practice and various theoretical models: Cognitive Behavioural, compassion focussed, Person Centred, Solution focussed, dialectical behaviour therapy, transactional analysis-integrating these modalities into practice.

A key advantage of integrative therapy is its flexibility and focus on the whole of an individual. The integration of different approaches means therapy can be tailored to meet a variety of needs and concerns, making it a more flexible and inclusive approach to treatment than more traditional, singular forms of psychotherapy.

Having worked in the mental health and wellbeing field across various settings, for many years and currently with NHS. This ensures a wide breadth of knowledge, skills and experience. Adherence to several ethical frameworks (BACP, BABCP, BPS) frequent clinical supervision which allows me to provide the best possible practice and safeguard your welfare.

I have worked with individuals with many psychological presentations over the years, which vary in their complexities.

on a daily basis:

I work with neurodiversity.

Various forms of anxiety: health, social, GAD, panic, OCD, and phobias.

Emotional disorders: depression, bipolar, personality.

I have a special interest and experience in working addiction: alcohol/drugs, sex/porn addiction, and food.

The psychological impact of weight loss surgery.

Trauma: PTSD specifically in those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. Also trauma/emotional detachment due to professional roles.

For more information on my experience and how I could help you please make contact for a free initial video consultation lasting up to 20 mins to ensure working with me is the best fit for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked across many organisations in the mental health and wellbeing sector over the years. This includes substance rehabilitation, complex mental illness and learning disabilities. Currently working as a psychological therapist (NHS-adult mental health),  and in a busy, thriving private practice.

I have spent the last 15 years in academia studying social science, BSc (Hons) psychology, Master of psychological Research , counselling (cert) psychological therapy (dip.) I regularly attend continued professional development training, supervision to provide the best possible and most up to date practices.

My main methodology in practice is cognitive behavioural therapy, however I draw from the many theoretical perspectives which I have studied and worked with throughout the years: these include person centred practice, transactional analysis, solution focussed, dialectical behaviour and compassion focussed therapy.

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration.
