About me

Hello, my name is Steph. I am a Person Centred Experiential Psychotherapist, Registered with the U.K.C.P.

If you are considering therapy for a particular issue then I believe I will be able to help you. You've already taken the first step, it takes courage to seek help.

I can offer a safe space to explore any issues which may be troubling you and support you to find the best way forward for You.

People seek therapy for many different reasons; it may be to work on a historical issue such as childhood trauma and abuse, in response to a current stressor such as work or relationship problems, or it may be simply to explore your own experience of yourself and your world and the relationships within it, in order to gain deeper self awareness and self understanding.

If you wish to have an informal chat about how I may be able to help you I am here for You. Please contact me by one of the methods on the Contact page to set up a free initial consultation and we'll take it from there.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Person Centred Experiential Psychotherapist who trained with the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute.

I have a Master's Degree in Person Centred Experiential Therapy.  I currently have more than 5 years experience offering one to one psychotherapy, and extensive experience prior to this of supporting people experiencing different situations which impact their mental health and well-being.

I am also an Occupational Therapist, registered with the H.C.P.C and have completed a further education teaching qualification.

I have 30 years experience working in the N.H.S, Education and Voluntary sectors - these roles have brought me into close contact with many individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.

It has been my privilege to work closely with people facing deep challenges with regard to their physical, mental and emotional health, or with their physical or social environment. I consider it an honour to be placed in this position of trust, and I am inspired every day by the people I work with.

In my own life I have been on my own journey and faced my own challenges - both personally as an individual and from the perspective of being the close relative or friend of the person dealing with these issues. I believe this has allowed me to truly empathise with those who are in a dark place, and through doing this work for myself on such a personal level, I have fostered my belief in the real possibility of post traumatic growth.

As a qualified and registered Therapist I regularly complete further training and activities to maintain my continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

I have recently attended further training on Trauma (including modules provided by Carolyn Spring and further reading and training on Polyvagal Theory) and Bereavement (Including specialist and trauma focused bereavement courses provided at a specialist hospice based therapy centre) and have many more CPD activities scheduled covering several subjects.  I find during many of my encounters with clients (and in fact in my own life) that mindfulness and grounding practices can be invaluable in managing anxiety, traumatic triggers and distress, and I use these often. I am also currently enjoying exploring the concept of identifying and building on "glimmers" as a way of increasing the light in dark times. I consider it important that my continuing professional development is comprised of academic studies, increasing social awareness and ongoing personal growth.   I am happy to answer questions about my experience.

Further information

As a person centred therapist, my focus will always centre on you as a person, and on what you need from your therapy sessions. I place a great deal of importance on the therapeutic relationship, and I want you to feel safe, and comfortable to express what you need and how you feel. I value feedback and will always do all I can to respond to your individual needs.

I like to offer creative approaches to self expression and self exploration, and I have materials available to incorporate art, craftwork, creative writing and journalling into your therapeutic journey if this is something you would like to include.

I believe equality and inclusivity is paramount and warmly welcome all - it is important to me that you feel safe, seen and heard and I will always respect how you identify, your orientation, spiritual beliefs and relationship choices.

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

The premises where I am based are wheelchair accessible. Although my therapy room is situated upstairs, I have access to a ground floor room which is wheelchair accessible, where I can provide a comfortable, confidential space for sessions if required.
