About me

Hello, my name is Rachel Gray, and I offer both short and long term therapy for adults, young people, and children in central Edinburgh. It can feel daunting when you make the decision to find a counsellor; to acknowledge, even just to yourself, that you may need some support to work through a current or historical difficulty.

Having 4 teenagers myself, I understand as a parent how hard it can be navigating the difficulties children and teenagers face. With younger people, I tend to work more creatively as talking therapy can be quite scary on its own for younger clients. We can draw, play and work in a way that may feel safer for them initially.

Prior to working as a therapist, I worked for over 20 year with adults and children experiencing a wide range of difficulties in various settings.

At our first session, we can talk about what has brought you to seek counselling, and what you would like support with. I will discuss confidentiality with you, and we can explore together how you feel counselling would work best for you with regards to days and times.

I am trained to offer psychodynamic/analytic therapy, whilst offering the core conditions of personal centred therapy, which are, empathy, genuineness, and a non judgemental attitude. I offer a warm, yet professional space to explore issues you would like support with.

My office is located on Princess Street which is easily accessible by bus, tram, train, bicycle or on foot. The building is completely accessible.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
