About me

Hello I am Melanie, do you feel frustrated with how your life is going; have issues you find hard to overcome or maybe think you can’t resolve? Do you often experience low mood, wish you were more confident, had better relationships with others? Do you find yourself overwhelmed with worries or struggling with a loss? In a nutshell, would you like to feel happier in life?

As an Integrative Person Centred Counsellor and EMDR Practitioner, I offer you a genuine, non-judgemental and empathetic relationship, in a safe, confidential and supportive therapeutic setting. I am passionate about my work, as well as the long term benefits of 'talking therapies', and I am committed to making a difference to my clients lives.

Choosing the right Counsellor for you is vitally important, as the relationship is essential to the work we will do. I will not direct you, but will encourage and support you to be responsible for your own personal growth.  Together we can work towards a better and more positive future for yourself.  My integrative approach of using various therapeutic interventions is adapted to clients’ needs, instilling an ethos that there is not one ‘best fit’, recognising the individuality and unique experiences of everyone.

EMDR is a therapeutic approach that uses bi lateral stimulation to aid the processing of distressing information and memories.  It is effective in treating trauma and is recommended by NICE for PTSD.  EMDR is also used to treat depression and anxiety as well as other mental health conditions.

I am a modern practitioner, and I am dedicated to providing short and long term therapies, in a straightforward and relaxing setting both to adults and young people. I have helped clients overcome mental health issues such as stress and anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement and loss, relationship issues, eating issues and suicidal thoughts.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), abiding by their professional standards and code of ethics, to ensure clients receive the best possible support and professional service. I attend regular monthly supervision, to ensure continued professionalism and ethical standards are maintained.

A free of charge initial telephone consultation offers an opportunity for you to share concerns, and enables us to determine which approach may be best suited to your needs, at a pace most comfortable and beneficial to you.

Counselling is offered at my welcoming office:

CoShabang Ltd, Valley House, T.V.T.E. Gateshead. NE11 0JW

Parking and disabled access is available, home visits (under certain circumstances) are also an option.

I n addition to face to face therapy, I also offer online or telephone counselling and I am available daytime, early evening and Sunday.

You can contact me by mobile: 07717 308143 or by email.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
