About me
I have experience working with a broad range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, low mood, low self-esteem, relationships, family issues, lifestyle issues. I work with a wide range of ages, from adolescent to more senior age groups.
How does it work?
As an integrative therapist I will always work with the client and their specific story, feelings and concerns, using a range of techniques and approaches that will best suit the individual. Sessions start with a person-centred approach and develop according to the client's needs. CBT, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic and Analytic are all areas that I incorporate into my practice as and when appropriate.
My priority is to provide a welcoming and comfortable space which is confidential and non-judgmental. I appreciate it can be the hardest thing to reach out and ask for help, so I will work hard to establish trust, respect, and to support and guide each client as they explore the areas of life they want to, or simply benefit from having a place to come and talk things through.
What are the benefits of therapy?
Usually the client finds it a very positive experience as this process can help so much with emotional release and regulation, and balancing perspective. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, lost, or you have something you need to explore further, the therapeutic space helps the client to externalise what's on their mind, untangle it and develop the recovery and healing. They find clarity and insight. Clients often say how good it is to feel heard and understood. As a therapist, it is always a privilege to be a part of that journey.
Hypnotherapy
I am qualified in hypnotherapy and can incorporate it into counselling sessions or offer it as a separate treatment. Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind and is known to help with habits, behaviours and negative emotions - anxiety, self-confidence, phobias, sleep patterns, stress and much more.
After an initial consultation sessions are planned to address the client's goals. During the session the client sits and relaxes their body and mind while listening to the therapist talking them through the process. The subconscious mind will absorb positive input in this highly receptive state and a person can have a maximum response to suggested changes in lifestyle or thought pattern. These changes come about by accessing the subconscious, which is where many layers of behaviours and emotions are stored. Most clients find this a positive, effective way of tackling problems while benefiting from taking time out for themselves.
Where?
Sessions take place in relaxed and peaceful rooms at the Natural Health Centre in central Woodbridge (nhcwoodbridge.co.uk).
I am also happy to work on Zoom and Teams.
Background
My background is in mainstream book publishing and a career as an editor, before training as a therapist in mental health. I believe that to be able to understand and connect with our mental health in a positive way, at any time of life, can enhance our lives and make all the difference.
