Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials: "Working with Laurence over a six-month period was a profoundly transformative experience. Laurence gave me the close attention, understanding and care that I had stopped being able to give myself. As a consequence I have been able to identify what I needed to change in order to be able to do these things for myself." RS, 59, 2024
"When I first met Laurence my life felt incredibly bleak. A recent bereavement had caused an overwhelming sense of sadness and hopelessness that was affecting every aspect of my life. To even acknowledge that I needed help was to show a vulnerability that I had spent over 50 years avoiding. It is a credit to Laurence’s warmth, insight and humour that I found our sessions not only effective but genuinely enjoyable. For the first time in my life I feel comfortable in my own skin and I know that it’s ok not to be ok all of the time. Laurence has taught me how to recognise when I’m starting to feel overwhelmed and has helped me to find real life, practical strategies to even out my moods and energy levels."
"I worked with Laurence for 3-4 months to help me address issues of anxiety, rumination and catastrophising. I found her approach to be very warm and affirming, she helped me to explore the roots of my anxiety and develop new perspectives which significantly reduced my presenting issues. I can honestly say that I feel much calmer now in my mind and am not currently experiencing any issues with anxiety." PC
