About me

Hi, I'm Krissy.

I run a small therapy practice, Riverlands Therapy, in Vic Ryn, on the outskirts of Lisburn.

At Riverlands Therapy we offer counselling and psychotherapy for a broad range of issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, grief and dealing with life's challenges generally.

We also offer specialist therapy for porn and sex addiction and somatic trauma therapy. One of our therapists can also offer specialised christian counselling. We currently work with individuals aged 16 or over.

I know that reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time.

Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or unsure of what they’re experiencing, they just know that something doesn’t feel quite right. My aim is to offer a space that feels calm, respectful, and supportive, where you don’t have to explain or justify yourself.

GENERAL THERAPY

People often come to therapy because they are carrying things from the past, worrying about the future, or finding the present day hard. All of our therapists are fully qualified and experienced in supporting clients in learning tools and techniques for making the here and now feel more manageable, as well as in exploring the past.

SOMATIC THERAPY

Trauma and stress aren’t just in our minds, they’re also held in our bodies. Talking alone isn’t always enough to feel fully safe, grounded, or connected to yourself. Recent research has highlighted just how important the body is in storing and processing trauma, which inspired me to undertake further specialist training in somatic therapy. This approach works with the body and nervous system to gently release tension, restore calm, and support lasting change.

In our sessions, we work at a pace that feels manageable, with your safety and choice always at the centre. Over time, this approach can help you feel more grounded, resilient, and in touch with yourself, so you can navigate life with greater ease and presence.

SEX AND PORN ADDICTION THERAPY

Compulsive sexual behaviours can impact our relationships, our self worth and our mental health. Many people struggle to manage or stop these behaviours, instead finding that they become a bigger or more consistent part of their lives, despite their best efforts to act in ways that align with their values and intentions. We offer specialised therapy to help clients understand their compulsive sexual behaviours and to offer therapeutic support for any underlying drivers.

CHRISTIAN COUNSELLING

Faith is not brought into the therapy room by any of our counsellors unless it is something the client would like to explore. We can offer specialised christian counselling to those who request it.

Training, qualifications & experience

Prior to my work in therapy I volunteered as a foster carer, which gave me valuable experience supporting people through challenging situations and understanding a wide range of needs.

I trained in counselling and psychotherapy, earning a BSc, and feel hugely privileged to journey alongside clients, exploring their thoughts and emotions in a safe and supportive space. Over time, I’ve become increasingly aware of research showing how our past experiences can shape not just our minds, but also our nervous systems, and that we often carry this deeper, in our bodies.

In response, I’ve undertaken further training in somatic trauma therapy, equipping me to help clients process trauma in a body-based, trauma-informed way.

As I journeyed with clients I noticed that compulsive sexual behaviours can cause issues for people, often leading clients to behave in ways that they later regret, whether its due to the amount of time or money the behaviour takes up in their life,  how it influences how clients see themselves or how it impacts their relationships with those they care about the most. I am currently studying the treatment of compulsive sexual behaviours, and offer a reduced fee whilst the course is underway. I am currently a student member of ATSAC.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (ACC)

The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
