About me

Hi and Welcome!

I am a very open, genuine and down-to-earth person, with a passion for supporting people to achieve a more fulfilled and contented life.

As well as practicing psychotherapy I am passionate about also working on articles and a book for publication. My specialist areas are in working with neurodivergence and trauma.

If you’d like to learn more about me and the way I work, please visit my website: www.Katewalkerpsychotherapy.co.uk

My approach

As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw from theories from multiple fields and modalities of psychotherapy, in a cohesive and assimilative approach which allows me to work reflexively and creatively to meet your needs.

I offer clients in the Leicestershire and Rutland area support with a wide range of psychological issues. Life can be overwhelming and sometimes even exhausting, but I’m here to support you through any obstacles that you may face. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply, to work through any presenting issues and better cope with change.

Your first session:

It’s extremely common to have feelings of anxiety and apprehension about your first session of therapy. I really encourage you to let me know how you’re feeling and I will do everything I can to reassure you.

I know how confusing it can feel and the fear of the unknown often feels overwhelming, so I will do my best to demystify the process of therapy for you. I will describe the process in as much detail as you need and I always say there’s no such thing as a silly question and it’s really important to me for you to feel armed with all the information that you need to feel comfortable.

Your first session with me will last 50 minutes and it will be primarily a pre-therapy assessment. I will ask you about what brings you to therapy, if you have any history of mental health and whether you have been in therapy before. I will take a detailed history including any information that you feel will be relevant. The more information you can give me during this session, the better the outcome will be in therapy, however, I do also understand how difficult it can be to talk about some hurtful or triggering content and I respect any boundaries that you put in place in terms of what you are willing to share right away. I understand that sometimes it can take some time to build a trusting relationship in which you feel comfortable to confide some things to me. During this session we can decide together whether we are a good fit for one another, and what the best course of therapy is for you.

Practical info:

  • All face-to-face appointments are held at The Rutland Therapy Centre and I also work online.
  • The therapy centre that I work from is on the top floor and unfortunately, there is no lift so I am not currently able to offer face-to-face appointments to clients who are unable to use stairs.
  • There is ample parking found in the pay and display car park at the rear of the building.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
