About me

It is important that you have a meaningful and worthwhile counselling experience. Hopefully, this information gives you an idea of what you could expect from sessions with me.

I have trained in a humanistic integrative approach, an integrative approach means that I am trained in a number of different approaches or theories, for example, psychodynamic, CBT and person-centred and I blend them to give a personalised and holistic experience for each of my clients.

Humanistic therapies essentially believe that we all have an innate desire to develop and grow and that you are the expert in your own life. I aim to work in collaboration with you to ensure that you get the most out of your therapeutic experience and recognise that this might change over time.

I believe that psychological theories should not feel like secrets only professionals have access to, many of my clients value exploring theories and learning techniques and tools in our sessions so that they can apply them outside of sessions.

I have a personal interest and experience in somatic therapies, dream analysis, meditation, breathwork, relaxation and stress relief techniques and I am happy to explore these in our work together, if along the way you feel that would be beneficial to you.

It is important that we are able to build a relationship and that therapy is a safe and non-judgemental space for you to come and explore and bring all parts of yourself.

Who Can I Work With?

I have gained experience working for a low cost counselling service where I have worked with a wide range of clients of different ages and backgrounds. In my private practice, I offer counselling for clients aged 16+.

My previous clients have come to counselling for varied issues and concerns, ranging from depression and anxiety, bereavement and loss, relationship issues, low self-esteem, sexual identity, dealing with change, bullying, culture and discrimination, childhood trauma and abuse, sexual abuse and sexual assault, addiction, family relationships, fertility issues and domestic abuse.

I also have previous experience of working for the emergency services for a number of years. This has given me an insight into how these services operate and what it is like for people in crisis and experiencing the worst moments of their life. It has also given me the perspective of a first responder and the impact this can have.

I discovered counselling in my 20's, I had no idea how it might help, I just knew I needed some help and support at that point, but it had a profound impact on me. I became so interested in it that I eventually decided I wanted to start the journey to becoming a counsellor and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. I have a personal understanding of the struggles and challenges of teenage years, 20's and 30's, which helps me to relate to clients of this age range.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
