About me

Hello, I’m Zuzi, a trauma informed and LGBTQ+ affirming counsellor working online and in nature.

For over 10 years I have been working with survivors (children, young people & adults) of interpersonal trauma (e.g rape, sexual abuse, coercive control)  to support them to understand, transform and heal their experiences of violence and abuse. Within this work and through my counselling practice, I have worked extensively with people who are nuerodivergent, have mental health issues (in particular depression, anxiety and PTSD) and who use drugs and alcohol. The majority of my work as a therapist has been working with people with minoritised genders, sexualities and relationship orientations and I am kink and sex worker aware & friendly.

How I approach therapy and support you..

I believe that you already have the answers you need within you, and your distress likely stems from these answers being obscured by something. Often, that something is a harmful experience, such as oppression, abuse, grief and depression. It also might not be clear what’s stopping you from accessing your capacity for joy and self-belief-  you might just feel anxious and lost and you’re not sure why. I believe my role is to support you to find your way back to your inner wisdom.  I am curious about you and my intention is that my curiosity will inspire you to be more curious about, and less judgmental towards, yourself.

Together we will create a relaxed, non-judgemental and explorative space to uncover what is affecting you, develop your understanding of yourself and allow space for growth. One session might involve me supporting you to clarify your thoughts and make links in your experiences, another might be more playful and experimental – eg using movement, mindfulness and creative activities to explore the sensations in your body. Sometimes I will challenge you and support you to move out of your comfort zone. You will always have a choice in sessions and be met with respect, care, and warmth. I am trained in Gestalt and Humanistic therapies, though I am not confined to these models, as how I work will be shaped by your needs and what emerges between us.

Making contact/ initial session

Finding a therapist can be overwhelming and expensive (!) and so I offer a 30-minute free consultation to see if we are a good fit, as well as some sliding scale spaces. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to explore a little what working together would look like.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Gestalt Counselling (2019-2021)
  • Certificate in Humanistic Counselling (2018-2019)
  • MSc Forensic Psychology (2011-2013)
  • BSc Psychology and Criminology (2006-2009)
  • BACP Registration number 01020594

My experience...

My clients have brought a vast array of experiences and struggles to me, and with that a great deal of wisdom too. Some recurring themes have been; depression, anxiety, PTSD, loneliness, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, oppression & discrimination, relationship and sexual difficulties and struggles with identity. All these threads of learning and experience inform my commitment to intersectional and anti-oppressive practice.

Training - I have received extensive training working with survivors of trauma, trauma informed practice, complex trauma, safeguarding and child protection, mental health and wellbeing, drug and alcohol dependency and self harm and suicidal ideation and behaviours.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

I offer a free 30-minute consultation which is an opportunity for you to ask questions and to see if we are a good fit.

50 minute sessions range from £40-80 (depending on income and circumstances).

For those who can, I request you pay £80 per session as this enables me to provide low cost slots. These spots are intended for those who are low/no income and who are also migrants, black, trans, disabled, single parents etc. This is a small step towards redressing the deep access inequity that exists when seeking healthcare for marginalized folks. Regardless of which rate you pay, I do not ask for proof as I trust folks to pay what they can.
