About us

Kythera Therapies is run as a subsidiary of Stockport Women’s Centre. We have over 20 years of experience of delivering effective Counselling & Psychotherapy. We have a large team of therapists, all of whom come from different backgrounds and training modalities, meaning that we are able to allocate you to someone who is best suited to meet your needs.

You will undergo a holistic assessment and we will work alongside you to devlop the most effective treatment plan to help you meet your goals. We are one of only 12 Counselling & Psychotherapy services across the Greater Manchester and Cheshire footprint to hold BACP accredited membership status; this means that Kythera Therapies has been assessed to the highest standard to ensure that we are providing a safe and effective service.

We are also a not-for-profit service, with 100% of our profit going directly into the running costs of the Counselling & Psychotherapy Service at Stockport Women’s Centre, where we support the most vulnerable and marginalised women in the Stockport area. This means that whilst you are taking the big step of getting the support you need, you are also paying it forward and allowing us to provide a free service for those who are unable to pay.

We can work with individuals (regardless of gender identity), couples and families as well as supporting small businesses to support their workforce’s mental health and well-being. We offer a range of services so please do contact us to discuss your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

We are a BACP accredited service, which means that we have been quality assessed to ensure that we provide a robust, safe and effective service. All of our team adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework and we are constantly striving to provide the best service we can to meet the needs of our service users.

We have a number of therapists from a range of different backgrounds. All of our therapists have undergone extensive training and have a wealth of experience, which means that we can put you with the right therapist who is best placed to meet your needs.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
