About me

I am a qualified, accredited counsellor, with a Masters' Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have a long-standing interest in health and well-being and work within a person-centred framework where building a trusting, open relationship is key.

I offer clients a safe, confidential and warm space to enable them to reflect on and discuss the challenges they bring in an accepting, empathic, non-judgemental environment.
As an integrative counsellor, I am qualified to practice within a variety of counselling approaches; this enables me to adapt my therapy to suit the needs of the individual.
I enjoy working creatively and use a range of resources to support and enable clients to explore and express themselves in ways that feel okay for them. I also enjoy and offer nature-based therapy and walk and talk.

I offer both face-to-face and online therapy and have many hours of experience in both modalities. I use rooms in Bath and Wiltshire for in-person work and work online from home in a self-contained, private office, offering counselling to clients throughout the UK and further afield.

Before becoming a counsellor, I planned and delivered therapy services for many years within health and social care as a Hcpc-registered Occupational Therapist (OT). I feel my background and many years of experience have enabled me to develop genuine empathy, compassion and understanding of the needs of individuals of all ages.

I have a special interest in counselling with children and young people and work as a school counsellor alongside my own private practice with both children and young people and adults. I have completed the BACP accredited Level 5 Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling with Children and Young People and have accrued more than 1000 hours within this specialist field. I am particularly interested in working systemically with individuals and their families and support networks and nature-based therapy for veterans and others who have experienced trauma.

As an Occupational Therapist (OT) I worked in a variety of settings, including mental health, learning disabilities, specialist autism and transition services and Reablement. I also worked for many years as a Senior Lecturer on undergraduate OT programmes, providing educational and mentoring support to students studying within higher education.

I have experience in supporting clients with more specific challenges such as ASD and sensory processing difficulties and other presenting problems, including anxiety and panic attacks, depression, bullying and harassment, bereavement and grief, trauma, disordered eating, low self-esteem, and attachment, relationship difficulties, physical impairment and long-term health conditions.
I have also worked for a specialist organisation supporting people who self-harm and was clinical lead for an organisation offering nature based therapy for veterans of the Armed Forces.

I appreciate the importance of quality, safety and legal dimensions within practice. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and work to their professional code of conduct and ethics. I am conversant with and apply the principles of relevant policy and legislation including the Mental Capacity, Mental Health, Human Rights and Children Acts, alongside safeguarding policies and procedures and guidelines within my practice on a day-to-day basis.

I find that my life and work experiences, which have sometimes involved dealing with crises, enable me to remain composed in potentially difficult situations. I also feel that they also help me to create and maintain a safe, therapeutic, calm and nurturing space.

I recognise the importance of continuous professional development and enjoy research and study as well as learning through experience and reflection. I also engage in regular supervision which enables me to reflect on and use my clinical experiences to enhance my learning and to gain further insight into the experiences of clients, alongside acquiring new knowledge and skills and a greater degree of self-awareness.

I feel that counselling should be accessible to everyone and offer concessionary rates for people who are dependent on benefits, are in full-time education or who have low incomes.

Outside my counselling role I enjoy baking, gardening, and reading. I am an umpire for the local hockey academy and sing with a small international choir.
