About me

I'm an accredited therapist with the BACP who works from a psychodynamic approach. I am also trained in and work with CBT. I work with adults, teens and older age and have particular focus and experience in anxiety & depression, OCD & intrusive thoughts, chronic illness/disability, LGBTQ+ issues. I offer both in person therapy and the opportunity to meet online for sessions.

I work with a wide variety of issues that cause distress. Maybe you’ve found yourself in crisis, or are struggling with an anxiety/worry that has come to dominate your life? Maybe you’ve experienced a distressing incident, loss or bereavement that has become overwhelming? Whatever the challenge is to your sense of safety, happiness and peace, I provide a containing and open space for you to explore yourself without judgment and to begin to meet the challenges in your life.

I offer an honest, trusting, and fundamentally collaborative approach to therapy. I tend to work with a psychodynamic approach, which means that I will encourage you to explore yourself in ways that are likely to include:

  • your past and how you can relate it to the present
  • your unconscious psychological life and conflicts, together with more conscious difficulties
  • how you relate to others and how you have experienced others throughout your life.

I also work with CBT, which is an approach that focuses on thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions, and explores how each one can affect the other. I'd particularly encourage you to think about and identify negative thought processes and unhelpful beliefs and work with you to develop more useful thinking.

I offer a free initial online consultation, where we can explore your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training qualification is in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy (PgDip, 2021). I also have an additional qualification in Level 2 Counselling Skills (2018) and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (2022). My core education at the degree level is a 4-year BSc (Hons) in Psychology (2011).

I have worked with working age adults, older adults and a significant amount of student age populations in their teens, 16-19 yrs in age. My clients have always come from diverse cultural and international backgrounds and I have significant experience working with LGBT people. I have particular interests in anxiety disorders, disability and chronic illness.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
