About me

All of us experience ups and downs in life – it’s par for the course. Sometimes, though, there can be times when our problems can become overwhelming or all-consuming. They stop us from getting on with life and get in the way. That’s when counselling can really help.

Maybe you are….

  • Struggling with anxiety and depression
  • Feeling that the trials of life are getting you down - we've all been through so much with the pandemic and now the cost of living/energy crisis
  • Finding it hard to cope with, identify or move on from past experiences that are impacting on your life in the here and now
  • Feeling like you’re constantly trying to please others, but are finding little time to be who you really are, or to do the things you really want to do
  • Feeling overwhelmed with grief or struggling to live with a loss such as a bereavement, the end of a relationship, or the loss of another important aspect of your life
  • Finding it difficult to adjust to a change or transitional period in your life
  • In a situation where you’re finding it hard to accept how things have turned out
  • Feeling suffocated under the weight of your day-to-day responsibilities, or by the expectations that have been placed on your shoulders

Training, qualifications & experience

A bit about me...

I’m a fully-qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I can provide sessions online or face-to face in Bishop's Stortford. I use dedicated counselling rooms in the centre of Bishop's Stortford offering both flexibility and convenience.

My aim as a counsellor will be to empower you to take control of your life. I will focus on you as a human being rather than on your individual problems or issues and I will help you to determine what is the best way forward for you.

I have experience of working with people across a range of issues, including with children and young adults (from the age of 13). I can work with you on a short-term basis (normally around 6-12 weekly sessions) or in a more open-ended, long-term way - whatever works best for you. Currently, I have good availability - including some weekend sessions.

I work integratively which means that I draw on a variety of theoretical approaches depending on the needs of the individual client.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Each session of counselling costs £50. I accept payment by bank transfer before each session. I recognise that in these tough times, my fees might put some potential clients off.

Please do get in touch if that's the case - I may still be able to help you depending on your circumstances.
