About me

Sometimes life is difficult. Whether it’s an overwhelming crisis, or the slow realisation of things not being right, we can often end up feeling stuck or that life isn’t what we intended. That’s when counselling can help.

I’m a psychodynamic counsellor based in East Lothian. I can provide you with a safe, welcoming, space where you can talk through what’s affecting you, and better understand what’s going on and how you might change it.

I'm experienced working with adolescents (16+), adults and older adults, including people in midlife, and those experiencing life transitions.

How Counselling can help

As a psychodynamic counsellor, I believe our past experiences often have an effect on our present-day life and relationships, sometimes causing us to get stuck in unhelpful patterns. By working through some of those experiences in counselling it can help us understand how they might be affecting us now. We can then use this insight to make positive changes and create new patterns that are right for us today.

My approach allows you to work at your own pace and use the sessions to talk about whatever feels important to you, without judgement. I’ll use my experience and training to offer insights into what you share and encourage you to explore challenging areas where you feel stuck.

I have a warm and calm counselling style which I’ve found fits particularly well with those who have experienced trauma loss, and anxiety.

What to expect in your first session

It can be an anxious experience when first reaching out for counselling support, so I offer an introductory appointment at a reduced rate.

During this time, you can tell me a bit about what you’re looking for and find out if the way I work is right for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
