About me

Hi I'm Kristina and I am a qualified and accredited counsellor and supervisor with a background in psychology and mental health.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and currently studying a MSc in Psychology of Mental Health & Wellbeing.

Offering both short-term or long-term counselling for children, young people  adults and couples, I can offer support tailored to your needs and explore areas of your life that may be causing you concern or that perhaps you are curious about.

My Approach

I believe that much of what we experience in our lives,  are patterns that were created in childhood and a set of beliefs about ourselves that developed when we were children. If there have been adverse experiences or significant difficulties then this may have an impact on our relationship with ourselves and how we see the world. Much of my work therefore, is in building a safe connection with those I work with, so they can experience themselves in a safe and creative space and filling any of the gaps that they missed in childhood and creating new ideas and ways that they interact with the world.

My practice includes working with a variety of interventions and experiential methods to explore, restore and build the sense of self; which may have been lost or damaged through negative life experiences and so I often will work creatively using mindfulness, somatic and trauma-informed resources to support the sessions. I can also offer psycho-education and emotional literacy work, which supports clients to feel more empowered and become more consciously aware of their patterns and behaviours and find more peace in their everyday lives as well as the more traditional talk therapies and counselling relationship.

Sessions are 50 minutes and offered weekly and all sessions are currently online via Zoom or telephone.

I am fully insured and registered with the ICO and hold a Level 2 ACTO membership.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Counselling for Adults who have experienced Trauma.

Trauma Informed counselling provides a safe space for adults over 18 who want to explore a certain area of their life that is causing difficulties.

This might include working with anxiety, depression, or work related stress, sleep issues, relationship issues, divorce or separation.

However I also specialise in working with adults who have experienced abuse or trauma, including sexual abuse, domestic abuse or childhood trauma/ neglect. The additional trauma training & experience undertaken provides me a certain set of skills to be able to support clients with PTSD symptoms and attachment difficulties or complex developmental trauma and work specifically within these areas so to improve over all mental health and wellbeing.

 Children and Young People

I also work with children and young people who may have concerns around anxiety, exam stress, gender identity, issues at school, peer pressure, bullying and gender identity. I also have experience working with children with neurodiversity such as ADHD and Autism, mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, OCD and addiction.

My work with young people is usually short term (12 sessions) however  longer term work,  depending on the needs of the young person is usually recommended.

An initial consultation with parents before the therapy and at regular intervals throughout is recommended.
