About me

Warm, Accepting Therapy to Help You Navigate Life's Challenges

Life can be difficult, confusing, or overwhelming at times, and therapy can be a helpful way to find a path forward.   I offer a warm, accepting space where you can explore and make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences.  My hope is that this enables you to gain a greater understanding of yourself, your relationships with others and the difficulties you are experiencing, which, in turn, can help you feel more comfortable in your life.

I have a depth of experience in working with people who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties. These include bereavement and loss, anxiety or depression (low mood), trauma,  low self-esteem or lack of self-belief; relationship difficulties; feeling overwhelmed,  misunderstood or that you don’t fit in or belong.

As a neurodivergent therapist (autistic with ADHD traits), I understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with being neurodivergent.  This enables me to connect deeply with my clients and tailor therapy to your specific needs. I am passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals and couples in navigating life's challenges within a neurotypical world.

What therapy is like with me
In our sessions, you will lead the way.   I won't give advice or tell you what to do but will support you in exploring your thoughts and feelings, helping you find your own path forward.  I believe that the therapeutic relationship between us is the most important factor in our work together, and I strive to develop trust and understanding between us.

Couples therapy
I am trained as an Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapist and offer weekly sessions, in person and online.  I work with any couple experiencing difficulties within their relationship, such as conflict, communication breakdown, or lack of connection. These issues may have developed slowly over time or following a betrayal, such as an affair.

Together, we will explore the negative patterns of interaction (e.g., shutdown/withdrawing and angry escalation/attack) that lead to conflict and disconnection. We will examine how your individual insecurities and fears might be affecting your relationship and identify the obstacles that are preventing feelings of trust, safety, and connection. This process will enable you to become more emotionally available to each other and to create and maintain a feeling of safety and connection between you.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and connection.

Session Details
I offer in-person sessions from my comfortable therapy room in Scissett, Huddersfield. There is free parking, and the room is on the first floor, accessed by 13 steps. I also offer online sessions using Google Meet, providing an effective alternative for those who cannot attend in person.

Getting Started
Choosing the right counsellor is a significant step in your therapy journey.  I offer a free initial meeting (20 minutes) where you can ask any questions, and we can decide if we are good fit to work together.  If you feel I might be able to help or you would like to find out more, please send me an email—I am happy to explore this with you.

If you're ready to start your journey towards greater self-understanding and acceptance and improved relationships, please email me to schedule a free 20-minute initial meeting. Let's explore how we can work together to help you thrive as your authentic self.

I aim to provide therapy that supports and works for you.

I am trained in the Humanistic approach and hold a Post-Graduate Diploma (level 7) from York St. John University (distinction).  I work using the person-centred approach which means that I believe you are the expert in your life; I provide warm, accepting space where, together, we can gently explore and make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences.   I have had further training in transactional analysis, emotionally focused couples therapy and group therapy.  I am trauma-informed, neuro-affirming and GSRD-affirming.

I undertake regular CPD (Continuous Professional Development) to ensure my knowledge and skills are current and that I am aware of the latest research and best practice. I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and am guided by their ethical framework.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked as a counsellor in various charities including mental health services, a hospice and a women's centre.  Prior to private practice I worked as a service manager for 14 years for a range of  mental health charities, with a focus on developing and delivering services that empowered and supported people to flourish.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
