About me

Who I Am

I know first-hand that people look for counselling and psychotherapy when things in their lives are difficult.  I myself have reached out for help when I have needed it, so I know not only how difficult life can be, but also the help, space and lifeline that counselling can give, both for me and my family.

What I Offer

My aim is to offer you a space where problems can be worked through together.

What to Expect - Adults & Couples

A First Meeting

A first appointment will be arranged where we can meet each other either face to face, via a phone call or video call.  I will explain the type of therapy I offer, answer any questions you might have and then we can begin to explore your reasons for seeking out counselling.

Weekly Sessions

Moving on, we will arrange our next meeting time.

What The Sessions Involve

We will meet face to face, via telephone or video and here you will be invited to share your thoughts, feelings, experiences and together we will explore them gently.  Our session will last for 50 minutes.

Everything you bring to the counselling session is treated in the strictest confidence and all records and notes that I may keep are kept anonymous.  Trust is an essential part of the counselling process.

Review

Periodically throughout the course of our sessions, we will review your progress and how you're feeling regarding the counselling.  It is important that we know and understand the counselling needs and these can and do change over time.

Ending

Our sessions will come to end when it is felt the right time.  We will come to an end mutually and carefully, respecting the work and progress that you have made and with your sense of being able to step into your future.

What to Expect - Children

A First Meeting

A first appointment will be arranged where we can meet each other face to face, via telephone or video call and go over the reasons for seeking out support for your child.  I may ask you to complete a brief questionnaire, which I will send via email if possible, which looks into your child's behaviour and will help focus on the areas of difficulty they are experiencing.

Weekly Sessions

If we feel we can work together with your child, we will arrange our next meeting time.

What The Sessions Involve

We will meet in my practice which has a small, comfortable waiting room where you can stay during the session if you wish.  Your child and I will go to the adjoining room and our session will begin.  Our session will last for 50 minutes.

Review

Periodically throughout the course of our sessions, we will review your child's progress and how everyone is feeling regarding the counselling.  It is important that we know and understand the counselling needs and these can and do change over time.

Ending

Our sessions will come to end when you feel it is time to.  We will come to an end mutually and carefully with the best interests of your child at the centre.

Important to Know

I am fully PVG checked for working with adults and children and am covered with full public liability insurance.  I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere fully to its Code of Ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I offer sandtray therapy; a gentle approach which allows the client to explore their experiences without the need for words.  Often considered to be suitable only for children, sandtray can in fact be a powerful yet fully person-centred approach to exploring our internal and external experiences.
