About me

Hello, I'm Jo, a qualified and experienced counsellor and trauma therapist, and I work with individuals and couples.

Life's challenges and traumatic experiences can significantly impact our ability to function in our lives and leave us tethered to the past, but we all possess the inner resources needed to grow and move forward in life, and I'm here to help you with the support and tools to do this.

Perhaps you are struggling with feeling depressed or anxious, experiencing difficult emotions like anger or shame and are trying to figure out why you feel this way. You may be having difficulties in your relationships and would like to improve how you communicate and navigate a path ahead. Therapy can be a transformative experience that can help foster greater awareness of how and why we might be reacting to situations. I can offer you safe and confidential therapy for individuals and couples where we can work together towards unlocking your full potential and feeling more empowered and resilient, helping you improve your relationship with yourself and others.

It's not easy to find the right therapist, so I offer a free initial session to make sure you feel I am the right fit for you. I can also offer evening and weekend appointments to fit in around your life.

I am an inclusive counsellor, and I welcome LGBTQIA+ clients, neurodiversity, and all cultures, beliefs and sexualities, You will find a friendly, open and non-judgemental space with me.

Specialist Training

I am highly qualified and experienced in working with many different types of trauma, including historical, physical, emotional, domestic and sexual abuse and assault. I also have specialist training in couples counselling and relationship psychotherapy, and my specialist training will ensure your safety and stability as we work together to make sense of it all at your own pace.

Experience

I have worked within several counselling services, which have given me wide-ranging experience in working with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. neurodiversity, including ADHD and autism, and I can adapt my way of working to best fit each person as the individual they are.

I also currently work with survivors of rape and sexual abuse in a specialist rape crisis centre which ensures I have the experience to work safely with you, with empathy and stability being at the core of my work. Previously, I was employed by the NHS as a health and art coach, where I worked with individuals and families to improve their physical and mental health.

Therapy is a collaborative process and partnership between us, and I can work according to your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
