About me

Hi and welcome. I offer a listening ear, kindness, helpfulness and use a number of modalities to include integrative counselling, mindfulness and meditation, CBT, coaching, comparison work, art and music therapy, movement, global thinking and nature therapy.

I genuinely want to help you, am non-judgemental and accepting. I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, am humanitarian, down to earth, mature yet youthful and feel it important to help others. I hope that you will feel safe in my practice with me, that you can work on any issues you have and that together we can find ways for you to cope with life.

I have a lovely counselling room in River House, Coleraine which is just beside the River Bann in the Waterside area.

I first began my counselling career in the late 1980s when I managed a community and counselling organisation working with some of the leading providers of counselling. I then moved into development in the tertiary sector, then lecturing for ten years. Alongside this I ran my own ICT and soft skills training consultancy in organisations and businesses across all sectors, working with many of the top 200 companies. I qualified in counselling in 2013 and along with my counselling business worked in admin and management posts in the health sector, criminal justice system, councils and schools. I am very happy to work with all ages of clients from 5 years upwards.

Along with my long list of qualifications now totalling nearly 50 from Level 1 upwards, I have an extensive portfolio of over 300 training courses to include Child Protection & Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, ASIST, Sexual Health, Search and Rescue, Infection Control, Misuse of Substances, Parent/Teen Communication Skills, LGBTQIA+, Illicit Drugs, Compassion Therapy, Art Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Relationship & Couples Therapy, Advanced Trauma, Vagal Toning, Mindfulness, to name but a few.

I bring high ethical standards to my working practice, in depth knowledge of policy and law and work within safeguarding structures, always endeavouring to carry out further research where necessary.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
