About me
HOW I WORK WITH YOU...
- You will be welcomed warmly and without judgement for sharing any issue in a professional, safe space. Using a relational model of psychotherapy, we will work collaboratively together to navigate whatever challenges or uncertainties you are facing.
- The Person-Centred approach recognises that you are the expert on your own life and that with the right type of support from the right counsellor, you will be helped to generate positive change in your life. View more here: https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/person-centred-therapy.html
- I aim to tailor the style of sessions according to individual clients' unique needs. So, we can work at your own pace by agreeing a focus for short-term goals or using sessions in an open-ended way, giving flexibility for both the issues you bring and the counselling time-frame.
- I offer a variety of options for therapy, including remote delivery (via telephone or video), and in-person delivery (in a counselling room or outdoor walk-and-talk sessions). We can discuss together beforehand which you might prefer, and you are welcome to try different approaches if you need.
- My service is confidential within the boundaries of the BACP Ethical Framework, (the code of ethics under which I practice.) You may view this here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/ This is very similar to the IACP Code of Ethics: https://iacp.ie/iacp-code-of-ethics
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP YOU...
- Supports you to deepen understanding of your issues and develop helpful coping strategies.
- Strengthens your capacity for emotional resilience and empowers you to challenge yourself.
- Provides a safe space to express feelings without fear of judgement and offers clarity and insight when you feel 'stuck.'
- Equips you to make hard decisions and enables you to process painful experiences.
- Improves capacity to care for yourself and others and creates opportunities to think differently about your circumstances.
- Fosters a stable and secure working relationship which encourages self-belief.
- Generates renewed hope ♡
NEXT STEPS TO TAKE...
- Email or text enquiries are the quickest ways to reach me, and I aim to respond within 1 week. You can share as much or as little information in your enquiry as you like.
- We can book for a first session straight away, or arrange a free telephone consult to start. This is very informal and lasts around 20 minutes. It gives you opportunity to share your hopes for counselling or ask me any questions you may have. We can decide together if you feel ready to begin.
- Sessions generally last 50 minutes and are usually booked weekly or fortnightly, although alternatives can be discussed and adapted to best support your schedule.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

- "Helen, Just wanted to acknowledge and thank you for all of the support you have given me over the last few weeks. You've been an absolute rock."
- "This is a brilliant service, focusing on assisting my home life prevented overspill into the work place. Many thanks to Helen who was wonderful."
- "I found this extremely professional and found talking on the phone, rather than face to face, did not impact on its effectiveness. I have recommended this to other people who I know are going through hard times. Helen was the help I needed when I was in a very low place. She gave me back some confidence and helped me on the path I needed to get my life back. Both at work and at home."
- "Thanks for being so kind, supportive & understanding. You've really helped me & it has meant an awful lot to me."
- "I... feel really grateful to you, it's hard to describe but I don't think I ever had the kind of support that you gave me from anyone else."
