About me

I’m Helen. I am a fully qualified Counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also accredited with the National Counselling Society.

My background is in working with mental health for adults and children. I have a specialism in working with families and young people who have experienced behavioural problems, including committing offences. I have also lots of experience working with young carers.

I don't believe in the one size fits all approach. I chose to practise Integrative Counselling, which offers a blend of therapies tailored to meet your needs.

Therapies I offer are:

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.

Transactional analysis is a form of modern psychology that examines a person's relationships and interactions.

Person-centred therapy is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves consciously rather than how a counsellor can interpret their unconscious thoughts or ideas.

Multisystemic Therapy is therapy which works with all the systems around a client and the factors which are impacting on them, for example home, friends, the community, work or education. This can help identify and plan behavioural changes.

Psychoeducation- problem solving skill, communication skills, identifying strengths and struggles, barriers to change and formulating action plans.

By incorporating these disciplines I am able to offer a blend of therapy which best meets your individual needs.I am based in Basildon, sessions will be held in your own home if appropriate, or a room booked locally. If a room is required this will add an additional £8 to the session fee.

I can offer short term therapy (up to 10 sessions) and also longer term therapy.
Sessions last 50 minutes and I would hope to see you weekly.

My service is confidential, with exceptions to serious criminal activity, serious harm to self or harm to another. I also receive monthly supervision with an experienced counsellor, where clients may be anonymously discussed.

I am happy to answer any questions you might have, so make the first step and contact me.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
