About me

I help clients facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and unexpected changes or endings. In addition to issues relating to and around fertility and adult diagnosis of ADHD.

I offer both online and in-person therapy from private practice rooms in Brighton or Hove.

My Qualifications & Experience:

I have a PGDip in Humanistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, which  means utilising the here-and-now over the past, respecting your unique story and lived experience and leaving behind any assumptions of who you are or how you should be.

Humanistic also covers themes such as uncertainty, choice, isolation and endings and importantly what these areas may mean to you and how they may be affecting your relationships and life.

In addition to my private practice I also work for a sexual abuse and trauma informed charity in West Sussex.

How I can help you:

My approach is one grounded in authenticity. I believe that at different points in our lives we take on societies or other peoples “shoulds” or dreams for us, consciously or unconsciously, and lose sight of our own, which can at best be uncomfortable and at worst lead to anxiety and depression. No matter where on this spectrum you may feel, my role is to get an understanding alongside you of what you need to heal. Helping you to find a route back to who you fundamentally are and want to be, and give yourself permission to be that, letting go of external expectations. I believe we are all, in a way, the same. We all experience varying levels of anxiety, loneliness, anger and depression, and it's not uncommon to feel misunderstood or alienated even by those closest to us. At the same time, we are all different, shaped by our unique childhoods, relationship histories, and careers. These differences can lead to feelings of being misunderstood and alone, especially when others presume to know what's wrong with us. For this reason, I don't follow a one-size-fits-all answer or behavioural model to "fix" you because I genuinely don't believe you are broken. However, I understand that at times anxiety, overwhelming feelings or a sense of "stuckness" can be prevalent, causing you to perceive yourself as broken. In this context, therapy works by discovering who you truly are and what you need to feel a sense of belonging, connection, and being at home in your world.

Areas of experience:

I specialise in working with people dealing with a broad spectrum of issues, including but not limited to:

Anxiety & Depression I help clients whose anxiety has manifest itself in many ways - addiction, fatigue, restlessness, irritability, nervousness and other physical and emotional manifestations that can appear linked or seemingly unrelated. Similar to anxiety depression can appear in a number of ways from being easy to anger, sleeplessness or sadness followed by numbness. Sometimes it can take a while to come to the point of understanding you may be experiencing depression and it's a big step to seek help for it, yet one that I believe is worthwhile.

Relationships some of my clients seek therapy to receive support in initiating or re-entering the dating world following the end of a significant relationship. Some also seek support in navigating the complexities surrounding a potential breakup, dealing with the uncertainties it poses, and engaging in self-reflection during this period.some of my clients seek therapy to receive support in initiating or re-entering the dating world following the end of a significant relationship. Grief & Living losses which encompass various life changes and challenges, such as redundancy, relocation or significant transitions. I support clients in understanding and processing the emotions that accompany these losses, navigating the emotional complexities, adapting to changes, and fostering resilience while finding new ways to embrace life and seek fulfilment.

Childfree / Childless supporting women who are childfree or childless due to factors such as infertility, miscarriage, or personal circumstances. My work involves assisting you in navigating the emotional pain and heartbreak associated with miscarriage, unsuccessful attempts at conception, and the complex challenges stemming from deciding not to have children. This can include addressing the potential stigma, feelings of loneliness & isolation, and the impact on relationships (romantic and otherwise) that can arise from this choice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a PostGraduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Brighton University known for its high academic and professional standards within the field.

Previously I have worked for charities including the Samaritans and Release Therapy for Women - a community project set up to provide counselling for women in Brighton & Hove. Currently I work for a sussex based charity supporting individuals who have experienced sexual assualt.

Prior to this I have completed Counselling Certificate with the CPCAB and Transactional Analysis 101.

As part of my commitment to my clients and myself I regularly attend training events and seminars in a range of topic areas such as working with trauma, anger, addiction and to deepen my understanding of the mind-body connection and the impact of stress on our health.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
