About me

I am now offering face-to-face, telephone, email and online video appointments.

If you're here looking for a counsellor, there's a good chance life isn't quite how you need it to be at the moment. Perhaps your life isn't meeting expectations, or possibly it is and you still feel unhappy? Maybe you feel the world is against you, or you are constantly fighting yourself? Do you find the past is holding tight, you struggle to calm your mind or find that light at the end of the tunnel? If so, I believe what I offer may help.

It is my aim, using my Humanistic therapy training, to offer you a space where you can become your own champion, use the skills and strengths you have to get yourself where you need to be. My role is to be the student of you, and through you teaching me about you and your life, and my learning, observations and curiosity around this; it is my experience that you will come to learn more about what works, what doesn't and how to move forward and get you closer to the version of you and a way of life that leaves you content.

Training, qualifications & experience

A brief history of my journey in mental health training and experience - Following completion of my BA (Hons.) in Psychology in 2008, I worked as support staff in various mental health wards gainng a variety of experiences with individuals with diverse needs while doing my certificates in basic counselling skills. While gaining my first counselling qualifications I began volunteering with York Samaritans where I worked as a listening volunteer, director of ongoing training and was part of the team training new volunteers. This was done alongside my Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (2010-12) where I completed placements in Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation, A Secondary School and a Sixth Form College. I continued on to the research year which changed my qualification into a Masters degree. Since then I worked with the NHS in Hull, where I worked with anyone who requests mental health support in Hull through their GP, again providing me with a phenomenally diverse client range. I also spent 2 years working part time with a young peoples charity offering counselling in educational settings, between the ages of 10 and 25. I began working privately during May 2022 and this has become my full time role since April 2023.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As a humanistic therapist, I work with the person rather than 'the issue', my work revolves around fostering a healing communication and relationship, so I would encourage you to talk with me around the specifics of your needs and if we are an appropriate fit for getting you where you want to be, rather than purely the symptoms or textbook definitions of 'issues', as in my experience these come from somewhere, and do not exist in isolation from the rest of your life.
