About me

Everyone of us at times face challenges and dilemmas, that can leave us confused. Within this current world climate, we can all be feeling different emotions that we haven’t felt before or have  been able to learn to manage before and now are developing into a recurring issue.

If you feel that you are ready to make changes, whatever it is that you are facing at this time, there is a good chance that counselling may help you.

The thought of needing to come into counselling can be a daunting, worrying experience. I am here to help you with the aim for you to feel safe, not judged and understood. Together, we can look at any of the issues that are effecting your everyday life and find ways to work through them, in a confidential setting.

I am a qualified accredited integrative counsellor and clinical supervisor. This means that I use the eclectic approach of using different theories including the main forces in psychology of Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamics. I combine different techniques and interventions to create the most effective therapy for your needs. This may include mindfulness, guided visualisations and creative counselling techniques.

My aim is to empower you to help you reduce confusion and enable you to cope with your challenges and make positive changes in your unhelpful or unhealthy patterns of behaviour in a safe, confidential and respectful environment, for you to be able to explore any issues, emotions within a safe therapeutic relationship to discuss, whatever is important to you at this time

The therapeutic experience can either be short goal focused or open ended. Each person has different needs and goals, we can discuss what you would like to achieve.  By offering a safe, confidential space to work within for the 50 minute sessions each week.

My aim is to build a therapeutic relationship with you so we are able to safely explore any issue that may arise for you within your time in counselling offering the tools to empower you to help yourself.

I focus on helping you explore feelings and emotions that are often related to your experiences, allowing you to reflect on what is happening to you and to consider alternative ways of doing things, or thinking styles. I help you to view things from different perspectives. This can lead to an increased sense of awareness, that can be invaluable if you want to bring about effective change.

I have vast experience of working with people from all walks of life and ages from teenagers and adults helping them with concerns such as to name a few depression, anxiety including health anxiety, stress, addictions including alcohol, drugs, gambling and shopping, relatives of addicts, abuse, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, long term debilitating illness, trauma as well as a space to explore any other worries.

I have over three years experience in counselling within drug and alcohol agencies working with clients on a one to one basis and also through facilitating group open sessions with clients that have addiction issues ranging from alcohol, drugs and gambling.  Each client has been at different stages of their personal recovery journey, which ranges from actively drinking, reducing drinking to assist with a safer detox, leading through to the different stages on their path to sobriety, working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and trauma as well as the addiction.  I also work with the relatives of people that suffer from addictions, regarding how it has impacted their lives by living and loving an addict. working through issues such as co-dependency also feelings of helplessness as they are not able to fix or help their relative.

Through working within a college environment, with students ranging from 16 to 19 years’ old.  I have experience of working with the challenges of growing up in the technological world and the issues that can be brought up though social media and any issues that can arise such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, learning difficulties issues and trauma.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
