About me

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and adhere to the BACP ethical guidelines for practice. I see clients in person in a small area called Twineham, in West Sussex. My practice is 20 minutes’ drive from Brighton directly accessible 1 mile off the A23.

I found my way into counselling after working intensively with disadvantaged families often in crisis and in need of emotional support. This included one to one clinical work, as well as delivering therapeutic group work programmes. I approach counselling in an open, non-judgemental, and explorative way. My hope is to incite curiosity alongside my clients, whilst they enter a journey of self-discovery through a deeper exploration of life experience and circumstance. This can be challenging and painful at times, but equally unexpected, hopeful, and empowering. I provide a warm, welcoming, and confidential space.

My aim is to support you to gain a deeper understanding about yourself and the difficulties you may be facing and bring you closer to changes you may want to make about your thoughts or feelings.

Training, qualifications & experience

My core training is in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory. The basic principle of this model is that as humans, we are all motivated to avoid emotional pain and suffering in a variety of ways, which then develop as defence mechanisms to protect us from certain overwhelming or unacceptable feelings. These may be strong, powerful, and sometimes frightening, which is why we seek to push them away or deny their existence out of our conscious awareness. This can come at a greater cost to our overall wellbeing and relationships with ourselves or others. Significant events in our lifetime, most commonly in childhood, shape how these processes are formed and developed into adult life. Psychodynamic therapy is a collaborative process where we will explore together how these processes may be impacting your life and relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Having access to a large rural area means that I am also able to offer walk and talk nature based therapy for those who may feel that the more conventional forms of therapy (in a therapy room) is not really for them. This is also a quiet confidential space. When in nature the setting is alive, constantly changing, and can feel less restrictive or controlled. It also may require a pair of welly boots!

The process of entering therapy can sometimes feel confusing or daunting, especially if this is a new experience. I aim to make my clients feel as comfortable and emotionally safe as possible. Please get in touch if you would like to meet up for a free initial session, so we can explore what brings to therapy at this time, and what you hope to get out of the process. It is also a good chance to get to know each other, to talk about the way that I work, and for you to ask any questions.

Clients have access to free parking.
