About me

Each one of us struggles in life at one point or another. When the difficulties in life feel too much to manage on our own, counselling and psychotherapy offer a confidential and safe environment in which we can explore these difficulties and find the direction to lasting changes.

Started working with clients in 2015, I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In the process of counselling and psychotherapy, I will support you in understanding the issues you bring and in developing better ways of coping. I have substantial experiences in working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and loss and bereavement. I have experience and an interest in working with clients with personality disorders.

As a former lecturer in counselling psychology, I am passionate about facilitating students', especially trainee counsellors and psychotherapists', development and wellbeing. Please get in touch for more details.

The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

My Approach to Therapy

I see 'symptoms' as a means of communication. They tell us that something in our lives needs our attention. Therefore,  I will help you to understand the deeper meaning underneath the symptoms, which can enable and empower you to make changes.

Often our current difficulties have their roots in the past. Problems emerge when we stick to our old ways of coping. In your work with me, you might find yourself looking back at your past and developing understanding of how your current struggles might be shaped by your past experiences. This can allow you to develop new and more adaptive way of managing challenges in life.

My approach is relational. This means that by exploring how you and I relate to each other in the therapy room, we can also develop better understanding of your relationship with yourself and others outside the therapy room. I will strive to build a trusting relationship with you in which you can be true to yourself and explore your struggles.

My belief in the individuals' innate tendency for growth and positive change means that I will help you to find the strength within you to cope with the difficulties you are experiencing.

First Session

The first session will be used for us to find out more about each other and decide whether we can work together (sometimes this 'initial assessment' can take more than one session).

In this session, I will ask information about you, what brings you to counselling/psychotherapy at this point in your life, and what you expect from me.

This is also a time for you to ask me questions, get a feel of what it is like to talk to me, and consider whether I can be the right therapist for you.

The cost and duration of the first session will be the same as a normal session - £85 per 50 mins.

Please email, call or book an introductory call with me to find out more about my services.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
