About me

As a compassionate and dedicated counsellor, my priority is to support you on your journey to improve your emotional wellbeing.   I will do this by using a flexible approach where you will be at the centre, ensuring you get the support you need.  I will provide a safe and non-judgemental space where you feel comfortable to discuss the things that are affecting you.

What can I help with?
Therapy can help with lots of things.  You may be feeling anxious, depressed or stressed in your everyday life.   You may have noticed your anxiety is growing, getting worse and gradually taking control of your life, limiting you and preventing you doing the things you want to do.  You could be experiencing relationship difficulties and want someone who is neutral to talk things through with.  You may have experienced difficult things in your past and want to talk them through, to make sense of them and help you move on.

Lots of clients experience low confidence and self-esteem and may not understand why they feel this way.

Therapy can help with many emotionally, challenging issues that may be affecting you living a fulfilling life and making progress.

How does therapy work?
I provide a flexible and tailored intervention that meets your needs.  I can provide counselling and/or hypnotherapy to help you get the best results.  This will include:

  • Person Centred Approach to create a warm and trusting space.  This is the foundation of our therapeutic relationship and will ensure you are at the centre of our sessions.
  •  Psychodynamic Approach to help you explore your past and discover how things that happened then, still affect you now.  Very often, why we act or think in certain ways, relates to our past and, by exploring and working through these issues, things can improve.
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), to help you explore unhelpful negative thoughts or behaviours.  This will enable you to challenge and change these negative processes and help you move forward in a more positive way.
  • Hypnotherapy can be included as a separate intervention, or combined within our counselling sessions.  This is very effective for lots of things including managing anxiety, improving confidence or exploring the past using regression.

How can I access therapy?
My aim is to provide a warm, nurturing space, where you feel safe to explore your issues.   Empathy, respect and a space free from judgement will help you feel at the centre of your sessions, and able to unpick those issues, thrive and achieve your goals.

You will be able to access your sessions either in person at the Blackwood Wellbeing Centre or, from the comfort of your own home, via an online platform (of your choice).  Some clients prefer online therapy as its accessible with the click of a button, and others like the face to face experience.   The choice is yours.

I am passionate to support you to explore and resolve the issues you face and feel privileged to do so.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I am able to provide an integrated approach to counselling using Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Approaches within my practice. This ensures you, as the client, is at the centre of our work together and your sessions are tailored to your needs.

I am able to work with clients who have experienced trauma having completed further training on Trauma Informed Practice.

I am a qualified Hypnotherapist. This enables me to use hypnotherapy to support clients, where appropriate. Hypnotherapy is particularly useful when working with symptoms of anxiety and is very effective in managing and reducing the physical presentation through the use of positive visualization and other techniques.

To ensure I develop and keep up with the latest theory and skills, I regularly complete additional training and hold a wide range of CPD Certificates. These include:

  • Managing Anxiety and Stress
  • Working with PTSD and Trauma Responses
  • Certificate in Hypno Gastric Band
  • Certificate in Weight Management
  • Certificate in HypnoBirthing and Pregnancy
  • Certificate in Smoking Cessation
  • Certificate in Managing Chronic Stress
  • Working with the Inner Child
  • Past Life Regression

I have come to counselling and hypnotherapy later in my career, following more than 20 years working with children and families within the community. This gave me a passion for this area of work, one which I followed to become a qualified practitioner.
