About me

I know how hard it may be to ask for help when you may already be struggling day to day. My intention is to offer you warmth and acceptance, with a genuine interest as to what is at the heart of your distress, and the challenges you're facing in your life.

From my own personal experience I have a particular interest in loss, change and bereavement and how this impacts you, as you grow through the challenges of life.

How will counselling help me

You may be experiencing anxiety or  depression and feel distressed, overwhelmed or stuck in life. Counselling provides a space to focus on you, your relationships and the world around you.

A therapeutic relationship offers you a confidential space to talk about and to explore your innermost thoughts and feelings with a person who is trained to listen, support and respect you.

Being listened to can feel powerful, especially if you have struggled alone for a long time. It may be the first time that you say out loud what has happened to you, or how you feel.

My aim is to work with you to understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours from your unique perspective. To hear yourself in the presence of another person can gently promote healing and growth.

Through the counselling process I see clients becoming freer, calmer and empowered to move forward with increased clarity and self knowledge. My hope is that you will feel better equipped to deal with life's difficulties and triggers, become more attuned to your needs and begin to make positive changes in your life, as feelings of self worth improve and you go on to make decisions that are right for you.

You can book a free intro call on this page or send an email if you'd like to reach out to me.

What to expect in your initial session

Here we will focus on what has brought you to counselling and any expectations you may have as I want to ensure that I offer what you are looking for.

We will discuss what confidentiality means within counselling, and I can answer any questions you may have. We can discuss the frequency of sessions and find a mutually agreeable time to meet. I offer face to face, online or telephone sessions, or a combination to suit you.  Sessions are for 50 minutes, and I offer short term, long term or open ended therapy depending on your individual needs.

It is vital that you feel happy to work with me as a connection to build trust is the cornerstone of our relationship and it is essential for you to feel able to talk freely, openly and honestly for therapy to be beneficial for you. That said, at times quiet reflection is just what you need and I am alongside you wholeheartedly.

Training, qualifications & experience

First Class BA (Hons) Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy

DipHE Person Centred Counselling

I am a Person Centred psychotherapist in private practice.  Following many years within recruitment work and holistic therapy my pathway into counselling has felt like a very natural progression. Working in the Person Centred approach aligns with my own personal belief of nurturing our own innate inner wisdom as I feel it is at the heart of living a fulfilling life.

I have also volunteered as a bereavement counsellor with Mountbatten Hospice for three years, and in addition I regularly facilitated a bereavement support group during my time there.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
