About me

I specialise in offering EMDR sessions.

Psychotherapy and Counselling sessions are available  to clients aged 18 and upwards to help people overcome emotional difficulties caused by current life challenges or by past events.

As an experienced therapist with over 30 years of experience, my personal life experience and training to date have shaped me to be straightforward, down-to-earth and forward-thinking.

I am passionate about my work and the long-term benefits that can be gained by increasing awareness and developing new skills and creative solutions  to apply to old problems. An Accredited Psychotherapist with UKCP and senior accredited therapist with NCS, (the National Counselling Society). I offer online appointments, telephone appointments and face-to-face sessions  using short term focussed approaches and also offer longer term sessions to work with more complex difficulties.

What I can help with

Sessions can help you deal with emotional difficulties eg depression, loss, relationship difficulties work stress anxiety, OCD and phobias and can help improve physical health issues eg difficult sleep, panic attacks, pain problems, migraines and other physical health issues that can have stress components to them.

Together we will explore areas of difficulty and focus  on the changes that you want to make.

Your appointments

Appointments are often weekly.Short-term can be helpful if you want to focus on a particular issue or recent experience and have a readily identifiable issue. The longer-term may suit you better if you want to make some changes on a deeper level. You dont need to know which you want/need before coming, we will work this out together.

EMDR is available as a stand-alone therapy or blended into our sessions to help process past or current events that may be blocking your progress and EMDR can be a very different experience to conventional talk therapy and is an effective approach for a range of issues. Some sessions of EMDR  may involve minimal therapist-client talking. Some clients find this easier.

Starting to work with a therapist can be one of the best decisions you make.

In a time of uncertainty, it can be easy to put yourself low down on the priority list. Being more comfortable in the way you feel is likely to support you in making the decisions you need to in a more decisive way. Do feel free to ask any questions.

Don't worry if you don't know what you need at the outset, we will work out together the best way forward for you.

I work with many presenting issues, some are listed below, if your issue is not listed here it does not mean that I don't work with it or have experience with this.

Trauma, Anxiety, Low self esteem, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Life Coaching, Loss, Obsessions, OCD, Personal Development, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-esteem, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues, sadness. Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
